Keep us posted! This could turn into a best bang for your buck thread. We will have real world testing to back the facts! :smile30:

I think for it to be accurate I need a good run with the stock SCJ intake on smooth water, no NOS. My best real top end with the Edelbrock carb was 56.7 on smooth water early one Saturday morning. I need to run the Demon out on smooth water now to get an accurate assesment of the improvement it made before installing the Stealth.
you sure that is a SCJ intake without SCJ heads?  You can fit a beer can in a SCJ port!!

It's a D0OE intake according to the stamp on it. That's a 1970 SCJ intake. Square flange works with 4150 style carbs. Came stock on SOME marine 460 applications thru 1979, along with D0VE heads. I can't see the stamp on my heads to verify.

EDIT: That was probably THE intake for boats because the D3 and later factory intakes were spread bore I think, could be wrong though.

I don't know if there is another flapper of some sort inside them, or maybe a wheel that only turn one way, or a leprechan with a small pail. Never had one apart to look.

Here's the exhaust Jeff had on his CVX.
http://dallas.craigslist.org/mdf/boa/2016896214.html

They are supposed to flow better than logs, according to some people.
I would run those before logs, but I dont have a clue wether or not they would flow better...

The "some people" was Jeff. He said they flow better, but I'll tell you what. You get NO access to the spark plugs with that exhaust.

I remember them from Jeff's boat. Maybe someone will chime in that knows more about those paticular center risers. I believe they were just stock...

The ones in my boat are stock for a Glastron Carlson. He ditched his stock logs for the manifolds he put in that are like the ones in the ad. His one gripe was the he had to pull them off to change the plugs. I don't think they flow that much better to warrant that kind of headache.. LOL

I'm sure they came stock on something though.

Yeah, it's the same "stock" intake that came on a 1970 Gran Torino with a 429 Super Cobra Jet motor. It's SJC intake, the D0OE-9425-C. Google it, there is TONS on info. Spread bore (last letter D) is Cobra Jet, square bore (last letter C) is Super Cobra Jet, and stock on boats. If you ever replaced your intake gaskets you would know because you had to get SJC gaskets. If you were lucky enough to get a D0OZ that was an aluminum police car SCJ intake.

Wouldn't go that far. It's still 1970 iron hardware.. The best of it's day, and it's day was 40 years ago!  :smile26:

My motor has some pretty great performance now, and I run it all day long, unlike the GM guys that show up and park the entire afternoon (intended jab, but untrue for a few). But I'll bet yours performs way better now. I can't wait till the Stealth get here. It's got SCJ ports, and that's where the similarity ends. First thing I'm going to do is hog that pig out!! My dremel is getting tired of only doing refrigerator work.

Ok, back to risers.... just found these on Ebay, at 3 1/2 inches I'll bet they flow pretty damn good.

Connected to these.....

Dude, that would be a sweet under hood exhaust system... with a couple of those nice stainless flappers..

I can see where they would flow quite a bit better.  There is a much better radius to the runners.

Almost like block hugger shorty headers, but turned up and jacketed. But I'm diggin on those Hardin Marine header logs. Good looking and I'll bet they flow really good with the polished risers.

I gotta be able to pull the plugs without taking the manifolds off.

I remember that night... The water was perfect, the air was perfect. I didn't have my GPS but that was a fast run. You guys left me quick, but once I got up on plane I was keeping up till Preston's boat started messing up and I blew by him. Let me know how much for the stainless flappers. I have black rubber ones now.

I want some water like that to make a good run on now.

We can't wait to get back to the Thursday night concerts on Ray Hubbard. I think that's my wife's favorite part of our boating adventures. Chillin in the boat with a cooler full of beer and some fried catfish from Dodies listening to come kick A$$ Texas live music. Then heading over to party cove to finish the beer under the moonlight....  We need to plan certain nights out there for NO KIDS..

You guys that have never gone, you want to run 6 or 8 boats side by side on glassy water, that's the place to do it!! We ran three for almost a mile.

Every afternoon one or the other side of hubbard is GLASS.  Not to JACK yours and Matts thread but I was kinda worried about running Preston a 16' v drive with a nice sbc.  But he said he was flat footing it.  yea I have to admit to that thursday nights are fun as Hell Dodies crawfish and beer and live music and and pulling in 5  BOATS DEEP loud as hell is pretty cool. Maybe this year we can take up one hole side with all Jet boats LOL  I agree on the no kids night will have to do.  my fastest mph on GPS is 84mph give or take some on GPS.  I have the smallest cubic inch motor of all the over transom header boats.  Sorry carry on with your thread on HITTING THE 70 MARK

Hey Jason, how many cubic inches is your motor? Are you running a 396?

I'll say it again too, if you guys have never been there, it's the bomb. On a normal Thursday there will be 1,500 - 2,000 people there. I think the 3rd Thursday of the month is dubbed "Family Night" and there will be close to 3,000 in attendance on those nights. A boat like Jr's would be HEAVILY photographed. All the "landies" come walking down the docks all night long to check out the boats and the jets draw the biggest crown every time. The 150k cabin cruisers are nice, but the jets make people say WOW!!!

Oh yeah Jason, I know what you mean about the boat getting tired in the summer. A typical week for my Glastron was Wed evening at Lavon/Collin Park. Thursday night on Ray Hubard/Rockwall concert. Friday night Ray Hubbard on the Garland side to go eat at the Bass Pro Shop complex followed by a night cruise with the old lady ;) Saturday after work Ray Hubbard/Party cove then to Rockwall for dinner. Sunday to Lavon again with lots of tubing and wakeboarding. Monday and Tuesday, time permitting, we'll put in the water opposite Bass Pro Shop for the kids to go tubing and wakeboarding.

I don't think there was another jet boat that worked as hard as mine this past summer, and the big Ford just kept bringing it..

Not to sound like a broken record, but this intake may date code as a Cj but it definately is not a SCJ. The difference in the ports is huge. The CJ is another term for Thunder jet or stock 429. Scj is a freaking monster and Scj intake won't come close to matching up with the stock D3s that should be on your Harmin Marine 460. I rebuilt my 460 with that intake, and the stock 460 gasket mathces up pretty close. I have worked on SCJ's in the past, and I can assure you that won't be the case. Some of the info out there is confusing. I like your build idea, but I think you won't be able to spin the motor where you want with a AA in your hull. You would really benefit from talking to some of the other Ford guys on here ( Esa or Duane ) about this combo. The best website for Ford tech is http://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/. They know BBF's and can hook you up with some good tech. Nice to have another BBF on the site, but we need to get you the right combo so your boat can perform at it's best. Then GM nuts represent pretty dam good. :smile30:
