So....were you able to get the flake the way you wanted it or did you decide to pass on it? Never mind, I iwent back and zoomed in and if you look close enough, you can see it. Hard to tell by the pictures but it looks like it is just the way it should be. :smile17:

Thanks ! There is a short write up on how to do the woodgrain a few pages back on this thread . It really isn't that hard , just do a few practice runs before you do it on the boat itself .

I guess I missed that video.  But I do think I may have gotten paint overspray on Bonnie's new cameras lens  :smile19: I'll just blame it on Mattie  :smile30: I guess I will take the other camera to the shop and take some more pics in the morning.

Man, that looks like crap... if crap had a totally killer custom paint job!! That is very impressive for a garage job. I think it didn't really matter how you did the flake, as long as it's consistant thoughout the boat.

Good job man, now the motor, right?

I still have alot of work to do, but the motor will go in pretty soon. I need to set the pump first, at least the inside part of it. Then get a good measurement and cut the front plates.
I also still need to figure out the mounting for an alternator and change the pulley on my alternator. Gotta get ahold of Henry about gauges. I need to find a nice forward reverse lever,  and get gauge bezels. I already have a nice steering unit, and an old school Grant steering wheel. I need to glass in the tank mounts, or bolt them through the bottom of the boat. I need one more fuel fill, one of mine is broken. Still waiting for the balancer. Lots of stuff to do still, but it's one day closer and this was the hard part.  I can work on the motor stuff anytime, but I can only paint when we are closed because of the fumes.

Balancer? Mine didn't come with a balancer. There was only a pulley on the front. I thought these motors were internally balanced?

I think I got my bezels from CP Performance.

Look closely at the big pulley, it is also a balancer. If you change it out for a balancer from a vette it will not stick out from the front of the motor nearly as far as the truck balancer. I figure a few extra inches in the backseat is worth the $40 I gave for the vette balancer.

I used that same stripper on my Rebel but it said "Marine formula" where the one TTJ posted says "Non Flamable".  It was from Klean-strip and it does have a plane on the can.

I took a bunch of pics of the flake with the doors open and the sun on the paint , but it's really hard to see the effect in photos . In person the flake has alot more effect than you can see in the pics .

Click the pics for a larger view

I really like the way that wood looks between that blue.  I read through a lot of your thread and never actually saw where you detailed out what you did to create the wood look.  I did see where you had someone help you with it that's done it before that's why you decided to go back to instead of the purple.  Is it just pain on the dark brown over the platinum and then take a brush and lightly run it over it to create the grain?

Maybe I will have a indoors project I can do until the rain settles down.

It starts on page 46 . I used a champagne color as a base , and did a color called chestnut over it . The chestnut was custom mixed to not have any metallic in it though . On the particular color we used the only thing in the mixing 'recipe' that would make it metallic was an aluminum , so we just left that out .
