I am very happy with the results of the flake , but I ended up putting more of it in then I thought I was putting . When I added the flake I really didn't think about the fact that I was going to put at least three coats of it on the boat . I actually ended up putting 4 coats of the blue with the flake added . I mixed enough to do the boat and the fenders on the trailer , then I had a brain fart and added activator to the entire can . Rather than waste it I just put an extra coat of it on the boat . I will have to mix up some more when I get ready to do the trailer , but I have extra paint so it's not a big deal .

That's ok. I like it with a lot in it as long as you don't have too much of it sitting on top. You get more of the effect that way.

I was actually really suprised , the flake sprays really well as long as you don't try to spray it dry . I was really impressed with this product and will definately use it again , especially since I have enough to cover half of Texas in flake .

I did have two little spots that the clear had trash in it , and I used your razor trick on it this morning . It worked out well , and should be fine after it's wet sanded and buffed . There are other spots that have tiny bits of dust or something in the clear , but it's all really small and shouldn't be any problem to just sand and buff .

I think this stuff is probably better than metal flake, and from what I understand it is probably easier to use. I have an idea for my next project in mind already, and it will have alot of the flake in it with several different colors. I just need to finish this boat and find a really light Hull to play with. A friend of mine has the molds to lay up Mantras, I wonder what that route would cost.

Yeah, it's waaaaaay easier than metal flake!! Trust me. Glad you liked it.

Well , they say you either have to know how to paint really well , or you have to be good at wet sanding . I am not much of a painter , so I am spending alot of time sanding  :smile19: I got the front half of the boat sanded out 800 , 1000 , 1200 , 1500 , 2000 , 2500 , 3000 . So far it is going well , but man my arms are getting sore . I am about to go start sanding from the fuel fills back .

Was that champagne color a metalic or pearl? Is there a reason to use a metalic or pearl when doing a wood grain for the base? think.gif

I used a metallic color , but it would probably look awesome to use a pearl . The metallic or pearl gives the color alot more depth than using a flat color .

I was just thinking about that! :smile16:

In the light you can still kind of see the metal flake through the woodgrain if you are looking for it . But just looking at it normal the metal gives the woodgrain alot of depth and dimension .

You know that it is not really necessary to do all those steps unless you are a glutten for punishment and have a LOT of clear on it. I usually just do 1000, 1500,2500, and then 3000. Are you doing this by hand or with a DA?

I am doing it all by hand . I couldn't get the paper and an arbor for the DA anywhere here in town and didn't want to drive over to Tasco to get them . Not to mention that I have never wet sanded with a DA and don't want to screw up my nice paint job while learning how to do it right .

800 is way too agressive to start out with by hand for what you are doing IMO unless you have some serious issues with the paint and a lot of clear on it. I will spot sand runs or bad areas with 600-800 but but as a whole it puts pretty deep scratches in the clear  to try and get back out.

I have tons of clear on it , but I might try skipping the 800 on the next section . I don't really have any big problems with the clear , just getting out orange peel . I had to do ALOT of sanding to get all the scratches out of the front part of it , so it might be just as easy to start out with a 1000 , or maybe even a 1200 . I will do a little small area with the 1200 and see if that is enough to get the peel off of there .
