So you like the electric over nitro?
Yes, by far. Initial cost is higher b/c of battery price. But, truerc.com has GREAT deals on batteries. He builds the batteries and I have had very good results with them (I've been using them for about 3-4 years now). But, it's really nice to show up with charged batteries, plug them in and go fly. When I'm done, just put them on the charger and that's it. No cleanup, no tweaking carbs, zero time getting it started, no smell (big deal, because I am a travelling worker...so stinking up an RV is no good), and...I can shut the motor off to sailplane and then just fire it back up whenever I want.
In my Kadet/Ugly Stik they fly with about $160 worth of batteries, $80 worth of motor (I buy them used), and $80 worth of ESC. Ground support equipment is a $120 charger. I can show up at a field and be in the air in under 5 minutes...and when I land I can be gone in under 5 minutes.
In my smaller Ugly Stik I fly with $40 worth of batteries, $40 worth of motor, and $40 worth of ESC; ground support equipment is the same $120 charger.
...and I don't have to figure out where to buy fuel when I move every 3-9 months.
Granted, there is a cut-off point where electric is just not really cost effective - like the double AXI and $250 worth of batteries for the 33% stuff; but for my stuff...it's the best option.
