One of the sales spiels we used to have to give at Super Shops was about the color of plug wires.  If I remember correctly is was something like Silicone only comes in two colors naturally,  Red and Black.  To get any other color you had to add dye.  The dye reduces the insulating properties of the silicone.  This is the reason Mallory only makes race wires in red and black.

Not sure if it was BS or not but you can feel the difference in the black and red wire jackets VS any other color.

What?

If the wires are the same size and same properties but are of different colors, you're saying there's a difference? Makes no sense to me. Lol.....  whatever.gif

Then again.....I'm not much of a hot rodder.....lol.

That is what I am telling you.  There is a distinct difference in the feel of the jacket between black or red wires and any other color.  Kinda like the way you can feel the difference between a good quality leather and a cheap vinyl.  Not all black and red wires just the high end ones.  There are low end black and red wires that fell just like the other colors.  This was 25 years ago.  Technology may have changed but that is what we were taught and how we sold wire back in 1987.  In fact I may even have the Mallory sales manual that talks about it somewhere.

Before this goes too far I have to say again, this was 25 years ago.  I know there are a lot of people who hated Super Shops.  I do not know how much truth to this there is but I do know the wires felt different and that was the reason we were given for the different feel and the reason high end Mallory wires were not available in other colors.

Oh crap....I thought you meant performance wise....lol.

I'm with ya bro.

It can affect performance.  If the jacket is not as good an insulator the chance of crossfire or arching is greater.

That's what wire looms are for, keep the wires apart. But Matt's right. Good quality wires don't have to worry about needing a loom because they won't cross fire. Good wires will conduct electricity better also. AND won't screw up your radio...

When are you going to fire it up? You gonna fire it up on the stand or are you going to wait until it's in the boat?

Dude, don't forget to add oil. Lol.

What type oil are you planning on using?

Front covers on. Might need to get e new water pump cover plate thingy. The tubes where the hoses connect are really pitted. Some of the ARP water pump bolts don't fit the water pump delete plate because they are about 3/4" longer than what the plate needs.

Cliff, going to run Royal Purple.

at the risk of making blaze mad once again, I have to state: I wouldn't run royal purple in my lawnmower.

Now that that's said, I have 3-4 front cover plates, send me your addy, if you need one.

I don't get mad. No worries. Royal Purple was off the top of my head. Will probably go with some Castrol Synthetic after the first oil change.

How much you want for the cover? I'll PM you my shop address.
