Here it is, the old rogue push rod that was in the pan when I took it all apart. What's crazy is all 16 were in the motor where they belonged. This was pushrod #17.

OK this is about where I went off last year so ... let me finish quietly by saying I have tools older than you that have never failed... and if you think a  "1" year warranty on tools is acceptible then ... oh yeah ... quietly. It's kind of hard to share knowledge when no one will listen. Like Frank "neverenuff" said "there just isn't any way to teach some one to listen to experience ... they just have to experience it to listen" ... I was pretty sure you said you busted a wrench working on what you are doing now , if you went and got a new one when you remembered yours was busted thats fine but you really shouldn't expect to get any meaningful input if you aren't willing to share the whole story ... that being said I feel I was nice and quiet.

The torque wrench got broken in the tool box about a year ago. The adjuster on the handle broke and it spins freely now. It's set at 75 foot pounds and can't be adjusted, so it's nothing more than a flexible breaker bar now. It's an old Craftsman I got before my 23 yr old son was even born. It was due to be replaced. NOTHING on this motor was assembled with that torque wrench. BTW, you won't find a single made in China tool in my tool box. Mostly Craftsman and Snap On.

BTW  I don't have any Chinese tools either ... but I do take my precision tools in each year to get calibrated and refurbished ... you won't find a busted tool in my box ... ok I'm done . carry on ...

I just said I busted my torque wrench and had to get a new one. Never said how. No need to get defensive man. ALL the fasteners in the motor were torqued with the new torque wrench. Fact is, no matter how good a torque wrench is, it will lose it's calibration over time, but you already knew that. Seeing as how I build about one motor a decade I see no need for a $500 tool when a new $80 one does the job just as well. Shoot, I built my first few motorcyle engines with a beam type torque wrench back in the 70's. Anything is better then that!!!

My point yesterday was that people were waiting on pics and I was delayed cause I had to go get a new torque wrench to do the mains and rods before flippping the motor over. Mine was 24 years old, time for a new one anyhoo. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

On warranties, all precision torque wrenches from Craftsman, Snap On, MAC, SK, and Sturtevant-Richmont carry a one year warranty. None goes longer on a torque wrench. All except SK go lifetime on non precision hand tools. Even the Husky line from Home Depot and Kobalt line from Lowes have a lifetime on hand tools. All makers listed only go one year on air tools also.

Yeah, but early on in the post I never said how it got broken, just that it was broken and happen to be working on the motor at the same time so I see how it could have been misconstrued.

No harm, no foul..

Work continues today....

Any ideas on how it spit that push rod out? looks like it broke and pinballed off some rotating assmembly. If you said it earlier in the post I missed it. Was it still running after it did it?

I had an old thread called Sunday Sunday Sunday where Hillbilly and I pulled the motor and broke it down. The rod was in the oil pan and yes, it was running with it in there. It was probably dropped down in there whenever it was last rebuilt maybe? I had the boat all last summer and drove the crap out of it. Both number 1 and 5 pistons had chunks gone out of the skirt

Some might thinki it's nuts, especially in a boat with a closed engine compartment, but I didin't like the blue oil pan being a different shade than the motor. It would bug me for years if I didn't take care of that.

$5 and it's squared away. Now they match and I'm a happy camper.

Thanks Henry. After the intake results, i have to re-do the timing cover also and add a wire wheel brush step.

Blasted, brushed and cleared...

I know I couldn't sleep at night if you had two different shades of blue on your engine, God that sound so gay, must be posting on this NORTH thread.

I can't believe I said that out loud.

thats funny that u have to have chevy parts to make that ford motor run crazy.gif

Goes both ways bro. GM did it right with the HEI dizzy, just like Ford did it right with the 9" rear end. How many Camaro's or Chevelle's can you see at every drag strip in the country with a 9" rear end under it?

It's all good man as long as it runs.

Seems like a pretty good deal.  Mallory makes good wires IMO.
