You are obviously getting where you want.
Remember you've only had water conditions acceptable a couple of times, so I'd say you're doing pretty good.

I have a really good digital Camera to record the runs.  Wish I was closer but maybe we can plan an outting and I can make it up there.  I need to get those plates from JJ and at some point pay him the balance I owe him on the Casale rebuild and pick that up as well.  I would love to get the Carlson in the water this year.

I don't pretend to know what is going on with your boat as the Vdrive is really all new to me so I am just taking in all the advice.  I can only hope my boat runs half as good as yours when it's done.

I hope it does more than half as good as Billy's.  Let's see 1/2 of Billy's 113 equals 56.5 MPH.
Yep, I think you'll have that covered.
You can probably set your sights a little higher.
:smile17:  Learning about V-Drives is part of the challenge.

Remember I am putting a little 450 hp 440 mill in mine and with the Hull design not sure how it will run out.  I might get a few more HP than that but not much.

Mine is definitely no Runner Bottom fast boat like Billy's and Yours.

You'll do fine.
I'm actually looking forward to seeing it.
Do you have any time frame for completion?

Almost  Loren Maybe one of these days I will get this boat dialed in and I will match your 114 .. It is very frustrating knowing that my boat should run 118-120 with the power that it has and it is only running 113 .. And yes I know that is respectable for a lake boat , but the boat and engine are both capable of higher speed .. Maybe it is the way I drive it . hell I don't know anymore .. I need two days at the river with good water , cool air  and a nice Video camera and a good Digital camera and a couple of people to help me set this boat up .. I need some one that understands how to make the boat do what it should .. I know in my head what I want it to do , but making the boat do it is another thing .. The boat should ride almost flat in the water with little or no rooster tail , just holding the belly of the boat above water so it does not plow water .. The boat will be level so the air will escape out of the back with just a mist of water for the rooster tail ..  If I get all of those items  the boat will be dialed in and whatever speed it has will be what it is .. No matter of it is 113 -120 .. The boat needs to be set up correctly .. It may be to the point thsi boat will not run any faster until some one works on it and sets it up right .. I am just a V-Drive guys that wants to learn , but I am struggling with why it will not run on out .. Oh well -- It is Friday ..

I am stepping back away from the boat this weekend , Today is my Wife's Birthday and I want to enjoy the time with her this weekend and not the boat . She has  already told me if I wanted to go to the river and test the boat she has no problem with that on Saturday ,,We have the HOT Air Balloon in Granbury this weekend and we may go and watch them and may catch another movie after dinner tonight ..

Billy,

I'm just razzing you and you need to remember I've had a couple years to refine this 489 set up and I've owned this boat for 24 years next April.
1st time out it ran 102 (for tuning)
2nd time out it ran 104
had a break due to some issues
probably 6-7th time 107
8th time 108
lost track, prop and gear testing phase 110 (best)

a year later..... new prop and 107
2nd try with new prop 108 in sanctioned 1/4 mile

114 is done by running mine out the back door a ways, not a true 1/4 mile.

Sorry if it sounded like I was dogging you it wasn't my intent. I was just razzing you. It'll come in time Billy but it takes a while and you have to be patient and wait for good water. I'd say it honestly took me several months if I could have tested and experimented every weekend to get mine where it is. You are doing great for no longer than you've had it on the water.

Sorry if I sounded rude or anything , no disrespect at all . I know you was just giving me  a hard time and I need that to keep me going .. Sometime I let the boat get the best of me and it gets me irritated . I just hate going the wrong way or doing something that is not right .. I am just a weekend boat junkie that like to try and go fast..
I will step back a little this weekend and think about what I need to do to the boat .. Maybe go get my big laser out and see if I can get it to work for the boat .. It is a Dewalt rotory laser that I might be able to just use the laser pointer and not let it spin .. I have a laser level somewhere also .. Might go and buy me some corded line and use it for a straight line and play around with where the plates are hitting under the boat if I have time ..
Again - I appreciate all of your advice and you was not dogging me .. No problem ..

I'm not the best typer Billy so I may not always come across like I mean to. No hard feelings here so don't worry about it. Stepping back and taking a break can be a good thing, sometimes we lose track of the trees for the forrest. Remember this is supposed to be fun, you have a great engine and a good boat so enjoy it.

I think a whole lot of us are weekend boat junkies that like to try and go fast. lol  jump.gif

Enjoy the weekend with your wife and make her feel special. That boat will still be waiting for you trust me. Oh and I know you like steady progress but unless your better than I am you'll take a few steps back in your quest for speed. I'm to the point now about everything I try slows me down........

Had a little mishap Sunday .. The  boat was running good .. Made two passes and then let it cool down for an hour . Went back out and made one more pass and it felt pretty good so I told myself one more and it is going on the trailer .. Well the last run did not go to well .. Big loud POP at about 90-100 and coasted almost all the way to the shore .. Thank Rusty and everyone for helping me pull it back and getting it  on the trailer .. I will be out for a while .. Chain is broken and looks like it was getting ready to break in atleast one more place .. I pulled the timing cover off , pulled the valve covers and all the top of the valve train looks good .. Do not see anything wrong yet .. Will pull the T&D rockers maybe tonight and see how many bent valves I have .. I can feel them when I rotate it over by hand .. Dam I need a back up engine .. This engine is is almost ready to pull out , just two bolts holding it in now .. Oh well -- we will see everyone Oct 1st .. I will help Galen with his boat that weekend ..

Not sure how much damage .. Not sure if I need to do a belt drive or gear drive  .. Don't really want to , but if I need to I will .. I will have to change the front of the timing cover to make the water pump work if I go belt drive .. Then don't you need to change the belt once a year .. What do you guys think may have caused this .. Henry what do you have and is it new ??

Darn it, sorry about your luck Billy that was not what I wanted to see when I skimmed over here.

I hope you get lucky and you don't have to much damage. What kind of rpm have you been turning?
