This thing is wearing me out.  Every time I think I have all the crap parts replaced I find something else.  There were obviously two different people involved in this thing before I got it.  The latest issue is hardware store grade 8 bolts used as head bolts.  Who spends almost a grand on pistons and then puts cheap ass bolts in the heads?????

Looks like another order to Summit in the near future.

Ugh.  More hurdles.  The dip stick tube is different on early VS later blocks.  My old block was a late one.  My new block is an early one.  Looks like I gotta hunt up an early windage tray, dipstick tube and oil pan.  Actually, It's jut the center main cap that is different.  That is where the later old dipstick tube bolts on.  The earlier center main has no holes or bosses for it.  Two stupid bolt holes.

Finally made a little progress.  Found an original Pontiac full windage tray that had already been cleaned and powder coated.  I had to drill it to clear the ARP main studs.  Also bought an original non baffled oil pan to work with it and traded dipstick tubes with him.  The oil pan was a wreck.  I had to beat out a couple of dents and paint it.  Bottom end is finally all buttoned up.  Hopefully the top will be done by tomorrow night.

Thanks Guys.  There is a guy in Quinlan that has a lot of Pontiac parts.  His stuff is nice and his prices reflect it.  I could have saved a little $$ and purchased the parts online but it was worth the time savings to buy from Mark.  Plus he is a very knowledgeable Pontiac guy so his input is worth something too.

Next task is to shorten a couple of the ARP head bolts that are too long (Common issue with the Pontiac kit from ARP) and hope the push rods are the correct length.

There is actually two guys out there.  One in Melissa and one in Anna.  I have talked to both.  They have better prices than the guy in Quinlan but don't have as much inventory.

Thanks Cliff.  Pretty much anything from here on will have to be new.  I'll probly regret saying this but the only thing left is the heads and intake.  The only thing I can think of that may be an issue is push rod length.  If they are the wrong length I will have to order new ones at the correct length.

Got the heads and valley pan on tonight.  Had to cut about .150 off of four of the head bolts.  Had to clearance the valley pan as well.  I'm not sure why but it fits a little different on this block.  It was holding the intake off the heads.  Still need to clean up the intake.  Probably gonna paint it with some clear once it's clean this time.  Still need to double check push rod length as well.  Getting closer though.

Little more progress.  Got the intake cleaned up and painted with clear.  Still need to check push rod length. and I have one intake bolt that didn't feel right when I tried to torque it.  I'll get a replacement tomorrow.  I think I am on the downhill side of it now.
