Dang Matt, that motor's looking pretty darn good. I have to use different length push rods on my motor also, but there is boat load (pun intended) of identical 460 builds out there that tells me what ones to use. Shouldn't be too hard to get it right though. Just make sure the rocker tip stays as centered as possible on the valve stem.

Exactly.  I have a set of adjustable push rod checkers.  They are not real accurate on a hydraulic cam though.  I'll give it a visual and if it looks close enough I'm gonna fly with it.

Do you  have some light tension springs you can use when checking? I mean like way too light to ever run, only like 15 punds of seat pressure or something.. For testing purposes only. They won't let the lifter compress at all so you can get an accurate read.

I was actually going to try using some shock springs off of my Traxxas to check my valve geometry. Should be strong enough to hold a valve up.

No light springs.  I do have some RC stuff though.  Maybe I can find something that will work.

Yeah, I was just thinking since I have a few extra springs here it wouldn't hurt to try. Just gotta keep the valve snug while it moves through the range of motion.

I have a valve spring remover here if you need one. It's the kind you have to take the head off though.

Thanks Bro.  It's not going down without a fight.  Only use that etching wheel cleaner on cast.  It will jack up anything polished.

Matt, so what have you decided to do? Will it take long for you to do it and also will that delay the "May 1st" grand appearance of the Phoenix Poncho?

Not sure yet.  Probably going to helicoil it.  Pretty sure I am going to pull the head to do it.  I just don't want to chance getting shaving down in the lifter valley.  That is a thru hole that goes directly into an oil return passage.  Then the big debate for me is weather or not to replace the head gasket.  I have heard stories of people reusing them but I personally have never done it.  The motor has never been fired so it may be OK.  I'm going to call Butler and see what they say about it.  I will definitely need a new intake gasket and valley pan gasket.  It will be a battle of money VS time.  I can order the gaskets from Butler again for less money but it will take time for them to ship. Next week is a zero progress week since we will be in MX.  I'm probably going to uhmmm........ Punt.

EDIT:  Butler says the head gasket will be fine.  I will pull the head this afternoon and helicoill it.  Pick up an intake gasket from Ernie, new intake bolts and I should be back to where I was 3 days ago.

Head is helicoiled and reinstalled. Got new intake gasket and bolts.  Have not reinstalled the intake or valley pan.  June bugs got too bad. They kept flying all kamikaze in the garage.  I called it quits at that point.  Maybe tomorrow night I will be back to where I was a couple days ago.

Progress.  Gotta a few nuts and bolts I need to chase down.  Mainly header bolts.  The studs I was using are not going to work.  Gotta find some small headed header bolts.  Then I need to relocate the battery to clear the headers and plumb the water for headers.
