Pump rebuild party

James will be tearing his pump down.  Chad has a cracked impeller.  Is there anyone else tearing a pump down this winter?  Might be fun to get everyone together for at least one build so everyone can see the process.  There is not a whole lot to it but could be a good excuse to drink beer together.

oh I am so in...  mainly so I can get some help. I need to order my kit though, and decide on impeller.  Prolly stick with an A I guess.

When I do the rebuild on mine it will be inside a heated shop... you're all invited.

My shop will also be available every Sunday all winter long to back your boat in, pull the motor, back your truck in , then set the motor down in the bed. Or do the same in reverse order when it's time to put it back in, but the boat can't spend the night. Come Monday morning it's a refrigerator business again.

No, the shop is heated and big enough to get the boat trailer all the way in, AND get the cherry picker behind it.

I repair and sell refrigerators out of my shop.

Also have a 35 gal Coleman Powermate compressor, and air tools to include an impact for those stubborn pump bolts. In addition there is a flatscreen TV in there to watch the Cowboys get it handed to them time after time.. LOL

And plenty of fridges to hold beer, no coolers needed.

Oh, basic engine tools like a ridge reamer, ring compressor, valve spring remover, couple of cylinder hones, and plenty of parking.

Just post up here whenever you are ready. I'll be on line all winter long. The shop will be open the day you need it and probably five or six other guys will come out.

Also, I would need a couple of days, preferably a week, of advance notice so the wife doesn't make other plans for us on the day the shop is needed.

Just picked up a SELOC jet drive manual off of Ebay for $20. The used ones are $150 and up on Amazon!!!

Here are some videos that highlight getting the pump out of the boat. They don't show disconnecting the drive shaft or water line, but I'm sure we can figure that part out. Shoot, we can probably figure the whole thing out.

The title of the page is rebuilding your jet drive, but all they show is removal and installation.

Make sure one or all of you purchase a handfull of shims for behind the impeller. Nothing sux worse than doing a rebuild and finding out you need a shim or two which you will not find locally... BTW, I am thinking of having Dale (Dales Jet Sports) machine my shaft for an inducer on my "spare" pump this winter.

Cool.  Tom @ jet boat performance is a great resource too.  He talked me through the rebuild of My Jacuzzi pump over the phone.  He even took my calls at 8:00 on Sunday night to help me through it.

Good info on the shims Jimmy.  I figured you would be one of our go to guys around here for info on building a pump.  So if Dale machines the shaft are you going to assemble the pump?

On another note, I know there are probably a lot of tweaks that can be done when building a pump if you are building an all out race pump.  Is there any specific area that should be focused on for the way people like James, Chad, Cliff and I use our boats?
