Chad beat me to it but I was going to say Chad's is cracked and James in changing from A to AA I believe.
I'll get Chads repaired and dressed for a spare. James needs to hang on to his, I think he is going to need it...

LOL.  What does it cost to have one repaired?  That may be a cheaper option for Chad.

I think Dale charges a shop hour $75, but will have to look it up to be certain. I will get you an answer in the next day or two...

Does anyone remember who was looking for the longer drive shaft while we were at Mikes house for the meeting?

The engine build I'm working on with the aluminum Ford Racing Kaase designed head, cam, intake and 850 carb (have those now) is rated for 530 horsepower in the dyno test done my PHR magazine. According to American Tubine an AA impeller will absorb 500 horsepower at 4,950 rpm, right where I want it to be. I'm building my motor for peak horsepower AND torque right around the 5000 rpm mark. An A will spin 5,400 rpm at 500 horsepower, which is more than I want to spin it. I take that back... I'll spin it over 5000 in shorts bursts, 10 seconds at a time on NOS.....

Here's the impeller chart...

Like Matt said in another thread, the exhaust is possibly going to be the set back here. I think no one knows for sure what logs can flow CFM wise, but I did take a good look tonight. I've never checked my logs before. I have a set of these on it now!

It sounds like several of you are going to order the kit with the impeller, which you may not need. I guess that may come in handy to have some extra used impellers laying around for testing purposes.

hell yeah extra impellors! takes about 3 minutes to change on mine so .... line 'em up! ordering a kit from JBP. I have an A just wanna see what difference it really makes

The split bowl makes a difference that attachments you can add.  I don't think it makes it any easier to change the impeller.  A set back however would make it easier.  Depending on the set back you may be able to remove the bowl without removing the transom adapter.

Ya, I guess until I actually get into a pump and see the parts first hand, I can only speculate as to how it works or what the parts are. Duane only replaced the gasket in my pump but doesn't know how the wear ring or other parts of the pump are wearing so when the guys tear their pumps down, It will be interesting to see so when I tear mine down, I won't have any issues. I don't like paying folks for stuff I can do myself.

Duane has a thread around here somewhere that he did on a pump rebuild. Had quite a bit of pics & some good info to know what you were lookin at.

I started pulling my pump last night & was taking pics along the way. I'll have it out this evening (if nothing comes up) & was planning on creating a thread with the pics showing what I found & whatnot...

my understanding about pump rebuilds,  i done mine six years ago,  which may need it again,  is the impellar to wear ring clearance,  there are two styles of wear rings,  one is shouldered,  and the other is tappered,  the shouldered ring has to be clearanced with shims,  and the tapered is matched to the impellar,  shims not required....... i think i'm right,  duane knows more than i do.....  when i rebuilt mine,  i used the matched set.... :smile27:
