The clear is a week old, so I wouldn't think it would track. But I don't want to stir up a bunch of dust when I remove the paper. I am using paper everywhere except inside the floor of the boat. If you look at my old pics you can see where I taped it inside the gunnels.  I am replacing the plastic, but putting it in the same way.  If its better I can put a plastic sheet in the bottom of the boat and do the sides with paper though. I have enough paper to do the boat 20 more times, so it's not a big deal to use paper.

I went back and looked at your pictures and the masking you have been doing is just fine. You have the paper border between the plastic that I was refering to. You just want to avoid spraying directly on to the plastic. I am not completely following your explanation but you need to follow your instincts because your have been doing good so far and seem to have gotten the hang of it.

Well, its really too cold to paint today, so I didn't get the boat sprayed. Its not supposed to warm up for at least a few days, so I guess I will start working on getting the motor ready to drop in. I also still need to decide what color to paint the pump,

It was good talking to you yesterday and I hope it was a little helpfull. I know we didn't get to cover all your questions so feel free to call back if you want. I will be in the booth again for most of today spraying clear on the  42' Fountain I was telling you about. I am guessing it will take about 5-6 gall of clear for the bottom half, so it will take a little while to spray, but I will be available later this afternoon or anytime the rest of the week.

Thanks for all the advice , I really appreciate it . Hopefully I will have a little time to get back to work on it this afternoon . I am sure there will be other questions before it is all said and done though . You will probably be hearing from me again .  When you get the Fountain finished you should post up some pics , we dont see too many of those big boats here on THB , but alot of us really like them .

Here you go.

Well , I got a few coats of blue on the boat , but I am going to have to wait and finish it another day . I sprayed the first coat of the blue on and took a break for a few minutes , then I sprayed the second coat of blue on and went to smoke a cigarette . When I walked into the shop from the outside the smell was really strong inside of the salon side of the shop . I went ahead and finished spraying what I already had mixed up , and opened the garage doors to air the place out. I have painted in the garage several times with the fans going and it was never a problem with smelling in the salon , but this time I am using the faster reducer for cooler weather , I guess that must be the reason the smell is so much stronger this time . I guess I will wait for the weekend to get here and hope for warm weather so I can finish the paint .

Lol , no not really . But I dont want to take any chances on it being too strong and making someone sick . I will just wait and finish it over the weekend . I think I will probably need another 1/2 gallon of blue paint anyway . The blue is almost completely transparent and it is going to take several coats to get  it right .

Now you understand why I was telling you not to add the pearl untill the final coats. :smile30:

Yeah , that stuff is almost transparent when it goes on . I decided against using the color change flakes when I decided to go with the wood grain . I thought about putting some big flake in a coat of mid clear , but I think I am just going to leave well enough alone and just do the metallic blue . With the woodgrain I think this blue will look really good .

Have you already bought the pearl?

Yeah,  I already have it. But I think it will look bad with the woodgrain.

I don't think it will look the way you think it is going to because you can't even tell it is there. If I were you, I would put a little pearl into a small amount of paint and spray a test panel before making a final decision. Personally I think it would look great with the woodgrain.

I was thinking about playing with it some anyway, I guess I can do a panel with it in the blue and see how it looks. It might look good,  I will play with it tomorrow and see.

I am not try to tell you what to do, but it is always better to not have any regrets after it is said and done.

Yeah,  I agree. I wanted to play with it a little anyway.  I might as well do a test panel with the blue and see what it looks like. I have been trying to think of a project for all the extra material I am not using, just to keep from wasting it. I have a half gallon of purple paint that was going to be for the deck, half a quart of champagne, and almost a full quart of chestnut. That's almost enough to do another boat, lol.

LOL.  I would have probably put some of the purple on it too, but that is just me!! :smile17:
