Here is another card I did playing around . This is more like what we are going to do on the boat , I want it to look like it has separate boards instead of all one piece of wood.

you should brush black first if you want that grainy look, or you can do little black lines on top then go back over it with the brown brush.

This is just me playing with it , I am still waiting for Robert to come teach me how to do it right . I am not sure what we are going to be doing as far as the complete process .

Try taking some fine line tape and making it looked like wood planks and spray a little black between your tape lines, this way you could make each plank look like there were individual peaces of wood. You could make them as long as you could with out having to worry about messing it up. And if you did you could go back and redo that peace???? just a thought...... crazy.gif

+1, paint the black first, tape up a wood pattern with staggered seams(about 3' apart)with fine linespray a tan or light brown down, let dry, then peel fine line and do what you did for the second pic.you can put 2 nails in each end of the board if you use little dots from office depot and put them on over the black with the fine line.

try this and see if it works but a mothers ball on a drill pushed straight down may make a knot in the wood.the more time you put into it the better it will lok.

I doing something similar to that,  but a little simpler.  I am doing 1.5 inch tape and skipping every other one.  That will give me 1.5 inch planks.  When you work the paint you kinda push it into the tape,  that will give you the dark edge.  Let the first planks dry for a day then tape over them and do the planks in between them the next day.

Thanks,  I have a test panel we did on the actual basecoat at the salon.  It looks even better .. I will post a pic or two in a little while.

Here is a pic of the color on the actual basecoat . The color slides alot better on the basecoat than it does on the index card , so the wood effect is better on the basecoat than the paper .

What do y'all think about a wood grain trailer?  think.gif

I have everything I would need to do the trailer to make it look like it was built out of wooden beams,  but have not really decided if I want to do it. I was thinking wood on all of the channel, and paint everything else blue to match the boat.

I got it all taped up for the wood trim that goes around the inside and outside of the deck . This part will be the first section to get the woodgrain , then we will start graining the planks next .
