Starting to think my helper might be a slacker  think.gif

Had to take half of the afternoon off to take her to see Chip-Wrecked  :smile13:

Ok , got some time to spend in the shop this afternoon , so I thought I would unbox the exhast manifolds and have a look at them . I had hoped they were aluminum , but they are not . Turns out they are a little over 30 pounds , EACH . They were shipped one per box , thats why the shipping weight was so low . But the OT pipes will be a perfect match to bolt up to the logs  jump.gif Now to figure out what holes need to be drilled and tapped to make them work on the LS motor .

Shannon! Ive done a Lot of bowls/pumps as you seen at the house, when i do mine i tape up both sides and leave the 1/8 pipe plugs in, sweep all paint off blow them out real good re tape for primer, & paint! then when I'm done i wash inside and out real good then blow it out with lots of air! make sure you still take the seal out and reinstall when finished not one time have i had a issue!

I have also learned that the paint has lasted a lot longer then the powder coated ones! just my .02!

Yeah , thats kinda what I'm thinking on the bowl and everything else that sticks out of the boat .

On another note , these manifolds suck  :smile15: they fit the heads perfectly , but hit the sparkplugs  :smile18: I guess I am going to get the ones from Australia . Probably should have done that in the first place  think.gif

I'm not checking this thread any more. The pictures are so small I can't see them.

Bummer about the manifolds. Can you return them?

I actually have some new pics to upload , but I am on my Iphone right now . I will get you some pics up when I get a chance .

I should be able to return the manifolds , dont see why I couldnt . Its not my fault they will not work .

Ok , Ive been thinking about it and I have decided that there is no reason there are not adapters available to use BBC exhaust , so I am going to talk to some machinists that I used to deal with and see what they can do to make some for me . If it works we can probably sell the adapters to lots of people putting together boats and auto conversions .

There is a reason.  Port spacing.  You might sell a few to the boat guys but the car guys have plenty of options already.  You can get a header to put an LS in just about anything these days.

With the two center ports lined up there is only about 3/4" difference in each of the end ports . Couple that with the increased port size of the BBC and you are really not very far off at all .

If you can buy an adapter to use parts you have for 1/3 the cost of headers why would you buy the headers ? BBF jet boat headers have been around for ages , they still sell alot of adapters for using a BBC header on a BBF , mainly cause guys dont want to drop the coin for the new headers .

Maybe , no matter . I just want to go boating anyway . If I can make it easier for others in the future all the more better , but I mainly want to get my boat on the water .

Gotta agree with Matt here. There are so many option for the cars that I don't think adapters exist, nor would anybody want them. You're either gonna have to shell out the $$$ for headers or manifolds that work, or shell out $$$ to chop/cut/weld an LS flange on some Olds headers.

Rewarder is making both OT and Thru Transon headers for LS1. No need for adapters.

http://rewarderheaders.com/pages/rewarder%20headers%20boat%20headers.html

I'm sure others will be soon to follow. One of the companies I checked out made fully jacketed stainless headers for LS1 that ran almost $3k.

I already know I can design a adapter to fit BBC exhaust , just wonder if it would be worth setting up a flow jet machine to make one pair . The difference in the BBC to LS is not very much , just need to have an adapter thick enough to make up the difference . But given the difference i  width of the motor it should not matter that the adapters are an inch thick .

I'm sure if you make them some will buy them.  Just not sure the market is big enough to justify the engineering expense.  I'm all for you making them for your own boat.  I'd be curious to see what you come up with.

Ok , here are a few more pics for y'all . I got almost everything together for the motor  jump.gif Stil waiting for the PTO , and small pieces . Here are a few pics of what I have so far .

Here are a few pics of the rear mount . I am thinking I can make a bracket for each side that will bolt to the rear mount to help with all the excess torque that Patch keeps telling me this lil ole LS mota is going to make  :smile30:

Started to wonder about getting a pan that would fit in the boat , so I started looking around for one . I found this one locally for $150  jump.gif

It even came with the oil pump , but I am not going to use it

Thats all for now , I will post up some more pics when I make a little more progress .

Oh yeah , I have been doing a little checking into the exhaust adapters to be able to use BBC exhaust on the LS motor . It looks like I can probably get something setup with a guy that used to do machine work for me . He has a really awesome water jet machine that can make just about anything , and we are going to try setting something up to make a set of adapters . If they work out well I will have him save the program so he can just remake them for anyone else that wants a set .

Cool.  That seems like a good deal on that pan.  Did you ever post a pic of those logs?  I know they wouldn't work but I'd still like to see what they looked like next to the motor.
