Hydro's new (to me) plane

Ok, need a lil' help here...I have a guy in Houston wanting to trade this plane for my 1/10 scale losi...we both want the same amount, and he's happy with the trade. My question is, do you guys think this would be a good step up from the top-wing model to a low wing model? It is a low-trainer...?

i think that would have to be personal choice,  and how comfortable you feel flying and ready for the next step,  i will probably fly more like a sport plane and allow for more aerobatics

well, I noticed the ailerons were binding a lil on the old plane...and repairs mean teardown, and I don't feel comfortable repairing the airframe...plus it was a great start, and only $50...I'll probably just hang it in the shop.

If I crash the new one, I'll dig it back out.... whatever.gif

It's like this: I want to move up, My plane has very limited travel on the control surfaces, and doesn't handle the way I want....can't fly anyone elses to figure out what I want, so here goes...... :smile20:

if it's a trainer like you say it is,  and by the pics i would probably agree,  your control surfaces are still going to be restrictive,  but the low wing is gonna fly more like a sport plane.....

it's not gonna do what a pattern plane will.....

but it's all about moving up

I think it'll be a good step, who knows?

I just don't think you'll be happy unless I get a p-51..... :smile28:

I really want this:

But can't afford it, and everyone says I can't fly it yet..... whatever.gif

That plane has allot of dihedral in the wing. It won't really be a step up man! It will be side ways at best. And that landing gear config isn't ideal for your sand pit. Just my $.02  think.gif

your wrong my friend  :smile27:  i don't want you to get a P-51.....  it's limited to certain flight patterns.....    :smile29:

Know of any planes for sale?

here's what they told me on the plane site I visit:

"That looks like a great stepping stone. And a great trade for you car if you think the value is there for you.

Is the bottom of the wing flat or is it a symetrical airfoil? It looks like the bottom of the wing tips are tapered too.
A flat bottom wing will be more forgiving. It looks like a fair amount of diehedral which is great."

"Looks like a fairly standard low wing trainer & sport plane, ideal for moving up the ladder a few rungs. Good choice Duane!"

It is a trainer with tons of dihedral. It will roll like a pregnant goose. I actually had two of them back in the day. It won't be as maneuverable as one would think. It will most likely be faster than the Kadet, but that's going to be the only gain. I think people are confusing low wing performance with mid wing performance. It is not an aerobatic plane. I will check into some planes for you! :smile30:

And they have to want to trade for something...no cash.... kinda limits my choices...

From a bystanders point of view... if you were looking to get rid of the car anyway, whats it gonna hurt to swap for the plane. Even if it doesn't turn out to be exactly what ya want, you'd be learning to fly another style plane. The experience gained by that bound to be worth something...

Worst case scenario, the plane totally sux.... in which case you load it up with fuel & we use it as a target for some skeet shooting...
