How to make Tawakoni even better?

Hull design makes a big difference too! It's too easy for all the people the know what their boat gps's to know what group to go out there with. You start throwing a bunch of engine rules out there then people start arguing.

I made a call to West Tawakoni Town Hall to try an contact someone with the VFD.  She took my number and will have someone call me back.  Will post more info once I have it.  Once we connect with one VFD I'm sure they will know how to contact the other.

Without timing lights it's pretty hard to bracket it. George's boat will run 100mph, but in the 1,000 feet my 60mph boat will give him a run. At 1,200 feet he's gone. Unless everyone has a GPS to get a trap speed, not top speed. You gotta know what they're running the 1,000 foot mark.

Then again, if you do it like in Pinks, you have to know what you have and figure out who gets spotted how many boat lengths. Say youre gonna run Ken, you get spotted 7 lengths. Or if I ran Cliff I would have to spot him 20 lengths. Something along that line.

Just bustin on you Cliff, but you get the point. Without a timing set up the Pinks racing method is the way to go IMO. In fact, I believe that guy in the red turbo boat made a few passes where he was spotting lengths.

However we do it, I'm down.

That would be cool for some but I didn't get into the jet boat thing for getting a head start. I'll go bracket race my car to do that. You don't really get any bragging rights if you win but got a head start to do it. Just my 02

In bracket racing if you dial a 14 and other guy dials an 13, you get a head start. That's pretty much how it is until you get to 9 second and faster indexed classes.

EDIT, just read what you were talking about. Bracket racing, yeah. Wonder what it would take for SDBA to bring out their lights?

This was my thought, maybe try to run it kinda like the Ft. Cobb deal. The money deal is just for funsies...I dont think any of us are going to cry about a 20 dollar bill. Kinda like a pot on the tree or #1 qualifier at the races. It will spur interest among the guys that didnt make it to the event,it will provide a WHOLE lot more action for the spectators, and will give the guys like (the 4 way cruiser race) and others that normally dont get the "Drag Race" expirience to have a little bit of a competitive feel. Plus it will be alot more organized, such as, guys just kinda hanging around the starting line waiting for a guy they "think" they are competitve with to come out.

Give the turn out option, if you feel like the guy your "tuning' against is jumping you on the start....turnout.

Its just food for thought. It isnt going to determine whether I come back next year or not.

If we sold shirts for $50 a pop we'de have it covered!! LOL... My vote is for Pinks style. Look over each other's boats, set the lengths and go.

Just like it was is just fine too.

The more i think about it...the event was great fun as it was. Any proposed bracket system will call for MANY more participants to be officials. You guys want to spend all day sorting out who runs who...etc...i mean-look how much help you guys had setting up the buoys...just sayin...
If the Outlaw flag race gets the nod...maybe see how they run it and go from there.Talk is they'll need 15-20 just to organize and keep things on track. That takes alot of guys outta the water to work the event. Whatever yall come up with...i'll see ya there! :smile30:
And if ya want sdba lights...join the sdba...they need racers.

Scott's probably right. Too many people needed that won't be able to race or even get on the water to pull it off. Just keep this one for fun. If you want to race for real, join the SDBA.

But I would consider going the other way next year. The sun was a royal pain, both for driving and getting video.

Well that's why this post is here, to post ideas and talk about them. I had a blast and Scott your right I don't want to be so busy all day that I can't enjoy it.

X2.  All this sounds like a good idea but it also sounds like it will take a lot of the fun away.  I want to be able to go run the guy that challenges me and not have to wait a couple hours for an organized thing to finish up.

Hey guys, why mess with perfection? The event was fine as it was....maybe in a few years the whole event could morph into something different than it is now.....but I say leave well enough alone.

I know we are tossing ideas but this event is for "ALL" hotboats...not just the racers.

Well done!
