How to make Tawakoni even better?

This is not a thread to complain or hash out issues.  Please only post positive suggestions on how we might improve a great event.

1) Have a "Fill the Boot" type collection for the Quinlan VFD.  It cost those guys money to be out there all day with us.  This would be a great way to pay that community back.

2) Talk to the marina about the possibility of giving the cabin renters first shot at the cabin they had the year prior.

3) Set aside an area away from the crowd for campers that want quiet hours after 10:00.  There may be those that have children they don't want hearing the adult conversations after dark.

4) Condemn the 3 wide (or more) passes.  This needs to be discussed in the drivers meeting.  Might need to anchor a boat at the start to police this.

heck i will send money now for those firemen, who were out there, looking out for us!, it would be great to get the same site again, we really liked the rv we were in, nobody knew where we were at. get someone down there to dredge the channel out for the low water, so we can use their ramp too, or work something out with the guy with the other ramp where we could use his ramp on the main day also, i really think that would help with the waiting to get in the water and waiting to get out of the water. also not sure who is in charge of the ramp that we used, but some lights would really help out too  at that ramp, wheather they were permanently mounted, or the portable ones, if need be next year i would volunteer to help load boats at the ramp, maybe we could get others to donate a little time to help also, i saw tintman down there when i was loading blendermans boat on the trailer and he actually helped out, dont thing i mentioned it but thanks scott.

You are the second one to say that Randall.  I'll try to contact someone with the VFD Monday at the latest.  Maybe they have an email address with PayPal already established.  If not, I'll figure out how we can make donations to them.  Worst case I'll setup an email address at my domain so we can make donations through Paypay.  I'll deliver them a check once the donations are cleared.

Good suggestions on the boat ramp.  Hopefully we get some rain before next year.  That would be the best solution.

Maybe have safety rules in written form and have the drivers wanting to participate sign they read them.  Then mark the boats that can run.  This would insure those running at high speeds on the side by side testing are on the same page.  I saw people that were at the meeting not following what was discussed.  Safety needs to be top priority.  There was some serious horsepower out there.  We never want to see anyone hurt and keep our sport positive.  My .02

Yeah... My bad on that one.. I made the PDF and totally spaced out getting them printed until I saw the guy at the driver's meeting had one. We'll have hard copies next year to hand out. About restricting use, technically we can't. It's a public lake and it's our responsibility to watch out for other people crossing our course. The best we can do is pass out the hard copies so everyone knows what the deal is. Then we shouldn't have any issues at all. I don't think any hot boaters want to intentionally cause a ruckus on the water.

I will have hard copies next year.

I think more bouys should be out there too. I only made one pass and at water level the first time out it took a sec to see where the ones were down the course. Maybe anchor a floating platform 25 feet past the start bouy and an BIG red one at the finish. Could start with a flag man. Three or four people MAX on the platform and all MUST be wearing a life jacket.

Two boats at a time only.

If the water's up enough to use the marina's ramp we could totally make people read the safety sheet and sign and acknowledgement form before they can put in at that ramp. Completely enforcable cause it's a private ramp, I'm all for that!!

You are right ...however the boats with high horsepower werent the problem...they all know the consequenses of tryin to run in the waves...its the guys that are just there to stir up the water that are in question... BUT they should get to run too...but follow rules! yeah...what knotty said.! LOL! :police:

I myself can't think of anything that has not already been mentioned in this thread. We had NO problems whatsoever with anything the entire weekend. Even the ramp situation was a very minor inconvenience & honestly for us, it was not an issue at all. Of course everybody's situation on that will be different I realize not everybody will have the option to load late like we did.

Other than that, the safety issue of people making passes was handled pretty good. I saw a few guys doin what they asked us not to do, but figured they was just gettin caught up in the moment. A simple reminder next time I'm sure is all it would take. I still say for the most part everything went real well. :smile17:

do any of you guys know the rest of the lake? it would be great to take a cruise around the lake, i plan on having a boat that will go farther next year, 8 gallon tank wont take you very far.

Maybe bigger brighter buoys.  I noticed on the couple of passes I made that the line was pretty crooked.  There was a big kink in it about 3/4 track.  To be completely honest, I had a hard time finding the last one while making a pass even in my slow boat.  If we don't replace all of them, a nice big bright one for the finish would be nice.  The one's the Outlaws use at Broken Bow are big and bright.  Maybe we can borrow at least one of theirs next year.

Jasson and Bobby know it pretty well.  I have been as far as Hawk Cove and that is about it.

Fyi.  That was not the quinlan vfd it was the west tawakoni vfd and the south tawakoni vfd.  I can get ther numbers for who ever I know guys that are on both of them..  yes the bouys where crooked but think the one at 3/4 track moved until it hit bottom.  Alos think they looked small and yes they could have been bigger but the sun was in our face.  Ramp well it wasnt that bad I helped everyone load from the time tintman was there until there was only 3 boats left.  Even the women were backing down the dark ramp y'all got them trained lol lol.    Only way to make it better is talk to man above.  Also if its better u don't have as much beach area.  Only seen three passes the hole weekend that worried me two of the three where the 3 wide race and one was when someone made a pass t towards the starting line with boats lined up.  That was it the hole wekend.  You can make whoever sign whatever but holding to it we all know how that is.  I thought the wekend went dam good.  For as many boats and folks that where there.  And as far as making a spot for folks that want quite time hotel is 20 miles away or get a cabin or rv its a jet boat gathering with a live band playing at night.......  kinda hard to make a place quite when the stage is in the center of the hole place.  Just sayin....

Jasson (wafobaby) and a few others are on Tawakoni all the time, and in different coves. He is a good one to start with next year if some want to take rides.
