Not worth it IMO when a new cam and lifters can be had for $114. Maybe on a cam with a profile that you really want and you know the history but not on a stock or near stock cam out of a motor with an unknown number of hours that was pulled to be rebuilt because it was worn out.
Not here to debate, just give my Opinion, Correct, cams can be had for very little money and unless you are sentimentally attached to one there is no reason to not replace it at rebuild, However, It has been my experience that FT cams can be reused successfully if you #1; Put the used Tappets back on the lobe that they came off of or #2 Replace them with new Tappets (I suggest replacing them) (lifters).
I Build lots of Big Diesels and the Cams are NOT cheep for these so I reuse the original cam as long as it is not Damaged, I have done this MANY MANY MANY times with absolutely NO Cam failures. I DO replace the Tappets as they are not all that expensive in comparison to having a used one fail.
Treat it like a complete Cam change and run the propper Break-in for the Cam like it was a new one and you will have no problems.
This is my Opinion and experience, take it for what it is worth to you, Could save you a Couple Bux for some much needed and ever so nice bling.gif :smile30:
I would also like to add this, B&G Pre-lube, This is the Finest Pre-lube that I have ever used. this stuff is BAD A$$! Been using it for YEARS!
