WTB Hull with or without pump

After this weekend having my nephew out at BCR he wants his own boat and I know the ChryslerJet won't be enough for him or me in the long run but it will be fun still.

I am looking at getting a cheap rebuildable hull (everyone knows I am on a extremely low budget).  I would like to get one with a berkley pump but I can always get that separate and install it.
I have a 500HP motor already I just need to check it out and freshen it up.

He is not keen on the custom hull I think it's a little unique and some work could have a nice setback setup.

I think you have more in the paint than I can afford right now.  Although I do love the job you did on that hull it looks great and I would be proud to have it.

I was kinda leaning towards the tahiti or the open bow.  The apollo needs the most work and the most parts but I can probably get it the cheapest.  The tahiti is in nice shape and needs the motor, pump, seats and hotfoot.  The open bow has a real nice trailer and pretty much everything except the motor I want to put in it and the motor thats in it might be worth something to someone.

What I've learned is that no matter how little youi pay for a boat,  it'll cost you the same as if you spent a little more for a turn key boat. You're not saving any money by buying a cheap non running boat.

I understand that its just easier to pay for things a little at a time than all at once right now.  I do want to buy something sans motor since I already have one I want to use.

For the most part I agree with what Cliff said , but not entirely . It is easier for some of us to spend a little at a time and build a boat than it is to write a check to buy a turnkey boat as CJ said . But there is also the point that you never really know what you are getting with buying a used boat . I usually have a list of things that I want to do to a boat before I even get it home , most guys do . You will spend alot building a boat the right way , but it will be the way you want it instead of the way someone else wanted it . And there are rare cases where you can build a really nice boat for less money than if you had bought the same boat turnkey . Look at what OutlawJet does all the time with fixing up boats and reselling them , he makes money off of them so he must build them for less than they would sell for . It can happen , but only if you are carefull shopping for the right deals and know how to do alot of the work yourself .

Yup and I do all my work myself including the motor build up but in this case I have a motor built already.

But , don't take that to mean the Chrysler will ever be worth any more than it was worth the day you drug it out of a field  crazy.gif crazy.gif That's a whole nother story there  :smile30:

Shannon that boat will only be worth something to me or someone that has my same passion for Chryslers.  Now that being said I am not ever selling that boat and if my family doesn't want it I will be buried with that boat.

Out of that short list, I say the Tahiti or open bow as well. Out of those two, the Tahiti looks nice, but is an empty hull and for 900 bux doesn't exactly seem that appealing to me. The open bow is a Rochelle by the way, and at least has a pump, can't tell if its a JC or JG, but best I can tell from the pic it looks to have a diverter on it. No telling about the rest of it, but at least the bones appear to be there. Its in or around Ganado somewhere. We may be goin that direction this weekend. If so, may be able to stop & take a gander at it for ya if you are really interested.

I'll also say these guys are right, a cheap boat usually you gonna have some $$$ in it by the time its over anyway, so they may or may not be the good deal they appear to be. I know there are exceptions though, for the handy do-it-yourselfer types. :grin:

Can't get any cheaper than free.  Mine had a freshly built motor still on the stand never had fuel through it and I guarantee you I have more in it than I could have bought a turn key boat for.  It is a very rare exception when you can restore a boat cheaper than you can buy one.  Good luck with your hunt.

yup but I still want to do a rebuilder for me and also for my nephew to learn to work on it.
