It's a secret.
    :smile23:

Break-in oil is Valvoline VR-1 followed by Mobil 1, 20-50w.

I am not saying it is the only combination that works, but Synthetic oil has demonstrated for many years that it provides longer life, ability to withstand higher heat and less friction than conventional oils.
Virtually every high performance car manufacture recommends running synthetic oil in their cars.

Secret, hahaha I hear ya. :cheesy:

I've run the Mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 in my Lightning since I bought it new in 1995, good stuff...

For the boat though, I run Valvoline 10w40 or 20w50 for no reason other than thats what I started out running in that engine when I built it for my truck back in 1998, lol... It seems to still like it ok, but I have thought about switching it to Mobil 1 as well just so both my vehicles will be the same.

I run Brad Penn, 15-40 in 1, 20-50 in the other.  No blowby and the bearing inspections are looking great in the belvedere. Lots of personal preference on this subject several good oils out there. If your engine looks good inside then your choice is working. One note went from Brad Penn to Royal Purple and lost a roller lifter 2 weeks later. Just FYI I wont be doing that again. Back on Brad Penn happy lifters again.  Also ran Joe Gibbs break in oil in both before switching to Brad Penn.

I love oil discussions! My father has always ran Pennsoil, which I don't. Thought he was crazy until my son inherited my dad's truck. 130k never touched straight 6, pulled the valve cover off and it was spotless inside. The best advice I have ever heard when it comes to oil is keep it changed! As far as synthetics, I hope my motor never sees the temps where synthetics are far more superior than the conventional oils. Just a thought! :smile16: crazy.gif crazy.gif

I have always run Pennzoil and never had an issue (and wait for it Spd will now comment on how my motors never need an oil change or never have an issue cause they never are run or because of some magic he thinks I have).  I have seen a motor just caked with oil deposits that had nothing but Quaker State its entire life.

X's 2 on the Quaker State, Many many moons ago my mom bought a Van (78 Ford 351W) from some ppl we knew, they ran nothing but QS in it, it had pi$$ poor oil pressure until it warmed up, then only marginal pressure when warm, well, it developed a valve cover leak, I pulled the cover and Wow, you literally could not tell the cover was off! It was a perfect mold with the crud that had built up!

I saw a Toyota truck come in with an oil leak and a tick! 22 RE motor 4 cyl. Had over 90k and never changed the oil just the filter and top off as needed. We pulled off the valve cover to reveal another valve cover of sludge. Told the customer it was toast and we could not help him out! I've also seen oil gel in a pan and you could do Jello commercials with it if you wanted to. Don't really know what caused it to do that! think.gif
