running vista on the home puter...is there a way to delete the entire outlook mailbox of old mail?
I have like 5,000 e-mails and I ain't doing it 1 at a time....outlook blue-screens the thing every once in a while, and I need to clean it out. any help would be appreciated.....

If you are trying to delete old Emails then try to this.

click one to ID it but not open, then hold the Ctrl key and hit the "A" key.  That should high light all of them. Once you do that, right click the mouse and delete or use the buttons across the top.

If that does not work, hold the Ctrl key and then hold down the "D" Key. that will delete them one at a time, but pretty quickly.

If that does not work, take your computer on the boat with you, go to the exact center of the lake and push it over. Your emails will still be on the computer, but you will not be bugged by them any more...

You can do that also , highlight one and then hold the shift key down and use the arrow key to highlight all of them and right click to delete

only way to fully delete anything is to turn off restore, reboot, and turn it back on. Or so I've been told. think.gif

I know in xp it was the fix for problems I was having long ago, deleted what I needed to, turned off restore temporarily, reboot, turn restore back on, and didn't lose any restore points, just got rid of the infected files. Thanks for the help anyway. I don't see the option in vista. All is good. carry on. bling.gif

Just deleting the emails will not reduce the size of the .PST file.  After you delete the emails you need to compact.  What version of Outlook?

BTW, This is not really a stupid windows question.  It is a stupid Outlook question.  :smile30:

can you go into the control panel / add and remove program and delete it from there

That will only remove the program.  It will not remove the PST.  If I am hearing Duane right, he still checks email with outlook, he just wants to delete all the old emails.  The only reason I reply to this is for the benefit of anyone else reading this in the future.

This will only remove the account.  It will not remove historic emails already stored in Outlook.
