My boat makes woodgrain look good. That's why I bought it. Who needs speed when you look that good! :smile30: Now post up some more pics of your paint work, you got us curious. :smile30:

No paint work today , had to actually work today . I will probably be doing the woodgrain on Sunday , and probably the first half of next week . I will post pics as we go , and try to include a little turtorial on how we are doing the woodgrain effect .

I decided that even though I am going out to the Winter Nats this afternoon , I needed to make some kind of progress on the boat first . So I got the rear motor mount sanded down and painted  jump.gif I love the color , it looks so much better than it does looking at it in the can  :smile17:

I got the intake taped up , painted , and cleared this morning . Of course the wind started to blow as soon as I mixed paint , so it's not perfect . But it looks pretty good to me . Still have the rest of the day , going to try to get a few other little things done before the day is gone .

Sum Biatch  :smile15: I went back out after taking a break for a few minutes and the wind had blow the plastic dropcloth onto my wet clear coat  :smile18: Now I am probably going to have to sand the damn thing down and start over . I peeled the plastic off of it , and the clear in that area went with the plastic .

I am going to try to wet sand it and re-clear  :smile18: Hopefully it will still be ok . If not , I will redo the whole thing .

My own damn fault , should have taped the dropcloth all the way around instead of just to the legs of the table  think.gif I will know better next time , but kinda feel like a dumbass at the moment  :smile19:

I asked someone who knows a fair amount about paint and was told to mix up some clear and re-spray it since it was fresh . I did and now the intake looks great again  jump.gif But in my haste to save the paint job on the intake I resprayed it without taping the carb flange , so I will have to sand it . Oh well , still better than sanding the entire intake down and starting over .

Hey Patch , was this plate setup in a complete and running vehicle , or something that never got finished ? Were there any other pieces to it ? It s very close to the ones I am seeing online , but they all use more pieces behind the plate to bolt to the block . I can make the extra pieces if you don't have them , but without more bolted to the block this thing looks scary to me  :smile20:

This one uses a mounting block behind the plate on the passenger side of the motor , and shows several other places where you can bolt to the block with spacers behind the plate .

Ok , looks like the bolts they are using spacers on go to the head on the right side of the motor . There is a large bolt that was never drilled on my motor , but the spot to drill and tap it is cast into the block . The only tricky part is going to be coming up with a chunk of aluminum to make the piece that goes behind the plate on the right side of the block , it is roughly 5.5x3x1.5 . I could probably go 1" instead of 1.5" , but would prefer to have a little overkill .

Go look at sandeggo's thread.  Those plates you have are huge compared to his.  You could trim a lot of fat off of those.

In the pic above they are not finished. There is a few more pics on this page of his thread as he finished them.  Basically he is using 3 bolts per side near the water pump outlets.

They will be cut down alot from what they are now, they are just the way that I got them from Patch. I am just figuring out how they will mount to the motor,  and if they will work in the boat. I am sure they will work for the boat, now I just need to trim them down to the width of the stringers and drill extra holes to the block.  I will trim them even more after I see how they look in the boat.

The bolts you have in it now are the same one's sandeggo is using.  No need to drill anything.  He is only using the 3 around the water pump on each side.  I would think that coupled with the rear mount is more than enough.

Those are some pretty small bolts to expect to hold the motor.  I will be adding some more support to each side just to be sure, but its good to know that the three little bolts will hold the motor.

How many bolts are you planning to put at the stringer end?  My guess would be 1 maybe 2.  That is going to be your weak point.  3 > 1.  Don't take me wrong, I certainly understand better safe than sorry.  I just wouldn't spend a bunch of time fabricating spacers and what not when someone else out there is running a similar setup with proven reliability.

Hopefully I will be able to do better on the stringer mounts as well,  but the three little bolts just look too scary to me.  I would probably wreck the boat the first time a nailed it because I would be looking back to see if the little bolts were breaking loose.
