Somehow, I figured this statement would come back to haunt KONA.  think.gif lol

Its not the fact that it would, its how many times it will, lol...

Been asking around and the Powersmoke turbo might actually be an option to make a little boost for the motor . This is the setup I have sitting out back that I am thinking about cutting up and making it fit . Not sure if the turbo will need a rebuild , but it is all there and would be fairly easy to adapt to fit the LS .

Made the photo clickable..

Yeah, it's got the Y-pipe and wastegate already on it. You could rig up something with some turned over stock manifolds to try it out.

Yeah , thats why I was thinking it would be such an easy setup to get the piping done . Still have to buy a carb for it , and get the fuel system right . From what I understand the tuning would be easy with the MSD even with the turbo . And the 241 heads are at about 9.1:1 right now without milling them , thats about right for the turbo setup .

I've always thought it would be totally WICKED to get some sort of overdrive that would turn the impeller 2 to 1  or even 3 to 1 over the motor, then hop up a Powerstroke or Cummins turbo diesel. Talk about some torque monster engines!!

The 7.3 in my F250 is rated for 250hp @ 2,500rpm and 505 foot pounds of torque at 1,600rpm stock. And I have the common exhaust mod on mine that makes it pull hard where you remove the stupid exahust filter that's supposed to eliminate the black smoke. You hammer mine and nice black puff of smoke comes out, then you hear the turbo spool up, and away it goes like a freight train.

Yeah , you can get a ton of power out of those big diesels  jump.gif jump.gif I would like to see someone stuff one into a boat  :smile30:

Yeah , they have videos of it on thier site . Just imagine all that power in a hydro or a winger  jump.gif jump.gif Hey , I know ! Lets get Randal to put a Cummins in his Hydro  jump.gif jump.gif jump.gif

Someone was talking about a diesel powered jet over on PB a while back.  They used it in some type of endurance race.  I don't remember all the details.  I'll try to find the thread.

Some of those diesel motors are spinning crazy rpms . Guess it would take a few dollars to make it work though . Probably could get some pump work done to get it to perform .

I would think it needs some sort of overdrive unit to get the impeller to spin.

I seem to remember there was.  I tried but can't find the post where the guy was talking about it.

I think were all going with LS motors anyway, so it's all good.

yeah how about the added weight of those diesels?

The 12v Cummins weighs in at 905 dry , not much more than a BBC  :smile30:
Lets put one in the hydro  jump.gif

Yeah , I already spent enough on the LS , but we could still put a Cummins in Randal's hydro  jump.gif

Ok , I have been told the turbo is too big by one person and that its too small by another . Anyone know how to size turbos for a particular setup ?

Dont remember , it will tell you what they are turning at the link I posted above , for that setup in a rail . That car goes 7s , pretty quick for a diesel .

I'll tell you that they BOTH are right...

Too big because of the PSI. Diesel motors can handle ridiculous amounts of compression.  That  7.3 Powerstoke turbo runs at 17 or 18 PSI in stock trim. With a power programmer the 7.3 turbos reach 25 - 28 PSI. That's a lot of PSI for a gas motor.

Too small because a diesel turbo is spooled to it's max at 1,500 rpms, so from 1.500 and beyond you're not getting much more out of it.

But shoot, it's easy and free, I'd go for it. Just get a good pop off valve and waste gate you can set at like 8-10psi and let er rip. That one Hot Rod article they pushed a stock bottom end 4.8 to 1,205hp with 25psi of twin turbo boost on 116 race fuel.

Check this video out. Stock turbo F250 with some exhaust, intake and programmer mods, pulling a trailer up a hill pushing 35 PSI. That would kill any gas engine out there. You can see at one point when he's on it, the RPM's are at 1,800 to 1,900 area boosting to the max.
