Gotcha , so either way it is better to glass them in . Might as well do it right the first time . I will try to see what I can do about making a aluminum bracket that will match the shape of the hull and go from there .

Am I reading it wrong ? Looks like that stuff is for sealing fuel tanks ? Not cheap either  :smile13: :smile13:

That's what it was designed for.  It would definitely get the job done.  And, nobody said it was cheap......  crazy.gif crazy.gif crazy.gif  It is made for airplanes.........  :smile13: :smile13: :smile13: :smile13:

so , I could use it instead of resin to glass the mounts down , but I would still have to use mat ? I was kinda hoping for some quick easy glue the bracket to the bottom of the boat kind of stuff , but it sounds like I might be better off to go ahead and glass it in right .

I went back and read the last couple of pages.  I think I now understand what you're trying to do.  Nevermind what I suggested.  I totally misunderstood.

listen to custom touch, the panel bond is th way to go, somebody did a tensil test on ot one time gluing 2 pices of metal together overlapping and the metal broke first.itll hold to metal better than fiberglass.i dont remember waht car it was but i believe the 2008 chevy taho roof is bonded on without a singlw weld.

My vote is for anything epoxy.  That stuff is designed to bond almost anything and is very strong.  Even if you just use an epoxy resin as a glue because epoxy is at its core a basic glue.

Ok, so what are opinions on the transom adapter ? I was told that you just need a gasket and to put grease on the gasket . The only one I have ever had apart didn't have a gasket , it had silicone , so I put it back on with more silicone . If I ever have to take it apart I don't want to screw up the new paint , so I am hesitant to use silicone unless it is neccessary .

I have heard that as well, grease on the gasket. I haven't ever used a gasket on the transom adapter myself. I used clear RTV, spread in a thin layer on the mounting surface of the transom adapter. I let it tack up though before puttin it on. Then after it was on, I ran a small bead around the outside edge o the transom adapter. When I had to pull it apart, a razor blade was enough to slice through that bead of silicone & the transom adapter came off pretty easyily.

When I got my pump rebuilt, a gasket was included & I considered using it, but it was pretty thick & my bolts would have barely been long enough so I left it out. It also would have left a gap between the transom adapter & the transom, so even if it had sealed it, I would have ended up running a bead of silicone on around it anyway cuz it looked "open" to me, if that makes sense, lol.

I was thinking I would make a gasket for it . The gasket material that I have is the really thick stuff like what they use for the gaskets that you buy for the intake or transom adapter . I am going to go buy the bolts , so length will not be an issue . Like I said , I mainly want it to be right .

berckley pump,  i have those gaskets,  if you want them and will be for the shipping you can have them,  and here's an idea,  for the transom adapter,  what if you use that soft weather stripping,  you know the type that looks like a small cord,    i use it on all kind of things to seal up..

makin your own & startin with fresh bolts, it should be fine. I want to say the one that came with the rebuild kit was rubber, pretty thick too.

You gonna put the o-ring seal in there, to seal the transom adapter to the bowl? Liquid dish soap will be your friend on that deal.

I already made the intake gasket and put the pump in the boat , but thanks for the offer . I was kinda wondering about the weather stripping stuff when I pulled the old pump out of the SST , but with it already being siliconed it was just easier to go back with silicone again .

That is going to get a healthy bead of silicone . I have heard bad things about those o-rings .

Ah hell, I've never heard anything other than they can be a bich to put the transom adapter on using them. Which can be true.

Either I have been lucky, or them other folks just don't know what they doin. I've had mine off & on a handful of times over the years & I've never done that. I tend to think its the latter.
