not sure why you need a new starter? it starts don't it?

if you dont have a flame arrestor on the intake get one for safety, its also the law

no if it gets wet it stops trying... i get power to the starter but no bump of any kind.

it might as well be, it sits in a canyon and has 40-50 mph winds almost all the time... its extremely low.  the closest decent lake to me is ute lake in logan NM.  the next closest is foss lake in oklahoma.  other than that im looking at a 2 hr to -3 hr drive to south of lubbock, or closer to dallas.

If the starter came out of the van than its not a marine unit and better to be replaced since he is using a engine cover.  If it is a marine unit then rebuilding it would be cheaper unless he has to ship it out to do that since there probably is not many marine places around there.  It's probably cheaper to ship it one way than both ways.

any alternator and starter rebuild shop should be able to rebuild that starter,  i had mine redone,  nothing really special about the starter other than the case

ok i purchased a starter, that is mercruiser, coated, and remanufactured for 80 on ebay

i purchased the alternator i mentioned above (not worried about stereo, its just a little one and i dnt have any other accessory) 80 on ebay

i purchased a flame thrower marine distrib and coil for 289 on ebay

i just hope everything works... thats alot of coin, lol ill re-wire everything tonight and get the pump put back together.

LOL if I had that kinda money to throw around I would too.  BTW I got my Starter, Alt, Carb, Flame Arrestor, Distributor all included in with my $400 motor that I have.  Only problem was the motor was RH Rotation.  But all those parts together would have cost more than the $400 I paid so I think I broke even.  I will always find a deal if I am not in a hurry.  Just call me the Tortoise the new guy can be the Hare.
