LOL.  Didn't think about that.  Seriously though,  A ball peen hammer is the tool to make gaskets.

i have enough material to try again... i will use a ballpeen and try... but YES! if you have an extra gasket let me know... i can send u a prepaid label!  i need to compile a massive list of "parts" and"stuff" i need, maybe some of yall have extras laying in the corner of your garages!

your good to go then,  using dish liquid or Vasaline on the o-ring will make it work better

I layed my bowl on the sheet and used a razor knife to cut around the outside. I then flipped the bowl over and taped the gasket to the bowl with masking tape. I tapped lightly around the bolt holes with a ball peen to make those holes. Then I cut the inside out with a razor knife while it was still taped to the bowl. Hope that helps.

that helps alot... i used pretty much the same method, minus the balpeen hammer.  i tried marking and drilling the holes with a unibit, but it just tore the gasket up... so im gonna re-attempt with your suggestions.

You are kidding right?  crazy.gif  There is one that goes between the bowl and nozzle adapter on a split bowl as well.

Actually, James bowl gasket is outside the hull with that insert pump.

ok, ive cleaned all of the old silicon off of all of my parts... and i have successfully manufactured a gasket... please take a look at the pictures below and tell me if there is any obvious reason i shouldnt be able to put this all back together using the GE SILICON II (kitchen and bath) that i got from lowes.

Seems that the goo that was used previously was REALLY TOUGH... had to use razor blade, and sand paper to get off the remnents.  ive notices that my transom has some chips in the fiberglass.. but they are shallow and look like they have been there for a while.

i only wanna do this once, so im hopping for problem free install.  should i proceed?

Good deal, looks ok to me. Bowl gasket you made should be fine as well. Sorry for not gettin back sooner, been away from the house till late last night. I don't have a bowl gasket, I do have the rubber gasket for the transom adapter though if you needed or wanted that one.

It will seal just fine.  Be sure to give it time to cure.  Seal it today.  Lake tomorrow.  Just don't over do the silicone.  you could test it by filling the boat with water and looking for it to run out but I would not do that just to check a transom adapter seal.  If you are concerned about it just make sure you have a good working bilge pump.  Don't use any silicone on that bowl gasket.

ok so i put this all back together this morning... used far less silicone that i thought i would think.gif

I put the bowl gasket on "dry", and torqued the bowl bolts to 75, siliconed around the bowl , on the transom, and on the adapter sufaces..and into all the bolt holes in the transom... then smooshed the transom adapter in place and bolted it up, got the bolts pretty tight in my opinion... i just tightened tilll i heard wood start to compress.siliconed around the inside edge of the bowl, and on the inside edge of the adapter... then i siliconed the outside of the bowl where it meets the transom...and put a good bead around the out side edge of adapter.

i let it cure up for a couple of hours...then repeated the process and smoothed everything out. installed the cables and put silicon on the reverse cable where it goes through the bolt since i dont have a gasket here either.

all in all i feel fairly confident that this is going to work.  as long as that bowl seal where the bowl meets the propshaft is ok...

So, which one of these lubricants should i put into my bowl and then seal up?  and does it look like i re-assembled this correctly? my steering seems tighter. but still smooth.

should i give it a light coat of some color so it doesnt look so sad?

I use Lucas Hub oil. It's about as thick of a liquid you can get. It stays around for awhile. Love the name on the boat man! clap.gif :smile16:
