Over transom headers restrictions Coleto Creek

A fellow jet boater called me yesterday afternoon and said he was told by the Head Park Ranger at Coleto Creek that affective September 1 2011 over transom headers will not be allowed on any GBRA lake !!!!!!!!!!

The attached resolution of the board of directors memo dated May the 16 is interesting read to say the least.
Take a second and read the last section (Now therefore be it resolved #2)

any thoughts?

Well maybe at some point the boating community will gather and fight this legislation. They probably don't really have enough tree huggers behind it, it was just someone's bad idea that got pushed through. Like they don't have bigger problems to deal with! :smile15:

I read it that as long as you have mufflers you are good. My mufflers are '' manufactured '' by Rewarder. What are they going to do ?? Just carry a copy of the code in the boat.

I guess the Game Wardens are banning together to get rid of us? When they really need to get rid of the drunk azzes in the other rides that are more dangerous than any performance boat enthusiasts. I guess they could look at the number of incidents involving our boats versus the rest and see who is the safest.

Aubrey was telling me about this last night. Sounds to me like one of those rangers maybe read a little too much into it & was tryin to flex his muscles a little at an unsuspecting boater. :smile29:

We are riding down to the river today, but sometime in the near future some folks want to get together out there for the day & see if anybody has anything to say about it... say the word.

As an added note, Billy posted up that set of illustrated guidelines that the TPW gave him that shows an insert style muffler is acceptable. So anybody with those should also be covered. I still think this is another case of an uneducated officer/ranger talkin about some stuff he don't have the whole story on.

Is the GBRA stepping across the line a little bit here?  I'm no lawyer but, it seems they think the water belongs to them.  If I understand correctly, they pay the state to USE the water to cool their plant.  The river and stream water belongs to the state of Texas.  (You and I). This is the same water that fills the lake.  And it is governed by state law.  They own the park that we use and I guess, they could stop you at the gate.  Isn't there another boat ramp?

I don't know.  Just thinking out loud.  think.gif

Well, when I started hydrofest, It was in the back of my mind that I could ruin the lake for myself. I'll post up more when I get home and do some research. It's too bad a few fools can ruin something for everyone, but it happens, and as gbra is privatly owned, they can do whatever the hell they want, as I understand it.

and no other ramp, it was designed so they could fully control it.

Manufactured mufflers, this alone says OT headers are ok with TPW approved mufflers installed but Baning all high performance boats does us in, Jet boats and V drives and the likes aside, Has anyone ever seen a Bass boat that is not a "High performance" Boat?! Sounds like a bunch of snivelling tree hugger's to me! I don't think they thought this one through.

WOW, that sucks for the guys who use that lake. I know that the plant I work at uses the water outta lake Limestone and its way low due to us pulling water for cooling purposes. All the lake lot owners are pissed due to they cant get their boats outta their boat houses. But all in all the lake was originally built for the plant as a cooling reservoir and there's nothing the land owners can say about it. It was not built for recreation but for the plants cooling. I don't think its right but that's how it is. Glad I didnt fill the through transom holes now. Sounds like some time in the future we may have to resort back to them.. And that really sucks.  :smile15:

I think my concern after reading regs would be it says.......... manufactured muffler AND thru transom exhaust. I think it would be either or if it said manf. mufflers OR thru transom exhausts???

In 70's we had hot rod boat haven on Possum Kingdom. on any given Sunday there would be 50 to 60 Vdrives and Jets. They passed rules, regs and sound limits with decibel meters and now you cannot find boats like ours. You go and they chase you down and tell you to load it up and go...........

Just wait until EPA gets involved! we are all toast then toast then.............. All trailer boats at that point!
