We shouldn't be to hard on the Okie jet guys, they're doing the best they can with what they have.
They seem nice, even though they don't always make good decisions.
As Jeff Foxworthy would say, "BLESS THEIR HEART".

We shouldn't be to hard on the Okie jet guys, they're doing the best they can with what they have.
They seem nice, even though they don't always make good decisions.

The promoter Joe Lippert was having a little bit of a hard time getting the city nailed down on exactly what kind and how much insurance was needed. He basically took it upon himself to get some quotes and went with the maximun liability, which was pretty pricey. The entry fees would have had to gone up quite alot to cover the expenses. That being said, with the time remaining before the event, having to realign everything and change a bunch of stuff, then get it out to the guys that wanted to come and race, the time table was just to short.

He's still dead set on having this event next year, hopefully with the 14 months leading up to it everybody can get on the same page (organizing side) and this deal will happen in 2014.

So far its been a very tough year for dragboat racing in Oklahoma with the big sanctioned races cancelling and the behind the scenes fueds going on between sanctioning bodies, these small outlaw style events like these are all alot of us can afford to participate in. I just hope that maybe some of the guys in OK, TX, KS and AR will see the interest and support that this little deal got drummed up in such a short time and take the idea and run with it on their local lakes.

Have race, will travel. So long as its kept afordable and fun. With 14 months to plan the next attempt maybe this thread should be morphed into what guys would like to see in this style of event? open to suggestions and ideas...even Jims LOL.

Very well explained and despite the hard time I give everyone involved, I think you have something that is a worthwhile project.  I know you've spent a lot of time working on it.

Thanks, I was really looking forward to this race happening. I was hoping that it might set the ground work for other groups to make the jump from weekend get together to something a little more formal, but not so much that it becomes a sanctioned event. I understand why the rules are in place for a sanctioned event, but the finacial burden that it places on the weekend warrior is very high.

I can't speak for others, but I feel like I got to know some others that I didn't know before.
It did bring several of us closer together, maybe sometimes a little too close, but overall everyone seemed to survive and have had a few laughs doing it.

Now when we talk about each other, we can refer to them as dumb-ass and have a reason to do so.

your going to find ins. is next to impossible , unless you go thru APBA , been there done that with no ins. at an unsactioned (outlaw) race , got sued for 7.5 million when a volunteer worker was injured, good luck on the race

You're exactly right Ronald. The major hang up wasn't insuring the racers from the dangers of "racing". It was insuring the spectators from themselves. Lol The racers assume the risks the spectators could twist their ankle getting out of the car and sue.
