could have been a defect, bbcs have screw in studs because when they tried the pressed in ones like a sbc they would pull out, it wouldnt take much of a defect for it to eventually fail. make sure your rocker didnt seize up, but i doubt it did if your pushrod is not bent.

edit: also make sure your rocker is not hitting the guide plate.

I seen a rocker arm gaul up and bind and eventily break the stud. Pull the pivots out and check that. Maybe

thats what i was thinking, but it should have bent the pushrod, if the rocker went bad and the pushrod is ok then you have one hell of a set of pushrods.
 
took one head to steve welch yesterday, they tore it down and found all 4 exhaust seats were completely machined wrong also two bent valves and replacing all valve seals, so i am on my way back to houston today with the other head. thanks alot steve. we couldnt even see where the valves were sealing, hopefully it will run a little better.
