MSD 6M-2 the beginning of trouble

In the 20 yrs that I have used the MSD stuff, it has been great. The few problems I've seen have really been installer error. Maybe you can run that tack off that ready to run dist you have. Then again maybe not.

Did you check the connections on the back of the tack? Maybe some corrosion has set in!

yes i did, but i plan on checking again,  now that i'm in a better mood,  that tach also runs on a pretty high voltage.  I'm wandering if the battery may have a role in it,  my charger is at the job so i can't charge the battery,  if all else fails looks like i will need a tach adapter

Check the power in with a test light and make sure your 12VDC is good.  I've read power with a meter and still no worky.  Corroded/bad contacts in switches are notorious for such behavior.  :smile30:  Verify ground too.

ok, i'm back,  i have some contradiction,  with msd tech peeps and the trouble shooting guide... they say .5v to 5v and the books says 12v,  go figure,  so far i have not found any problems with the wiring in the boat,  :smile22:

I have had the same MSD 6AL box in my boat for the past 7 years and so far it has been good to me . I will buy another 6AL for a back up soon just to have a spare in case it does decide to go out ..

No problem with my tach and the MSD 6AL box ..

Wish I could give you an answer to why your tach does not work now . I would borrow one and hook it up and see if it will work . At least that will eleiminate if it is the tach ..

Good Luck ..

have a favor to ask.....  if you have a good tack laying around,  and you have a digital ohm meter will you ohm the tach between the grey wire and the black wire,  i do not have a extra tach to do this,  thanks
