seriously,  i really don't know.... i charged the battery up, it was low and not really sure if the charger is working properly after hydrofest,  low voltage,  was my last guess,  everything else checked out..... the charging the battery didn't change anything, so i just said f-it and went to the river sunday,  put boat in and had fun,  tach still not worky,  left the sandbar, tach was working,  so there it is in a nut shell

Sometimes I guess shit just *happens*.  :cheesy: One of the riding mowers I've had to tinker with occasionally, the PTO quit working, wouldn't engage the blades. My son-in-law messed with it some, had power everywhere, but no worky. There is a relay tied in there that had went bad on our other one, so I told him to check it, but if he couldn't figure it out, bring it to me. LOL, he brought it over from Edna, unloaded it, tried it out. Sure as hell, blades no worky. I pop the cover off the relay to see if its working & next time I hit the switch, blades kick in fine. He's there grinning, "Well, sonuvabitch!" hahahaha been working ever since.

that's like that darn fuse that blew on my truch here awhile back,  spent a half a day tracking the reason why down,  never blew again,  but i have extras just in case

i am going to say this... and this is what i believe until proven wrong,  i think it had to do with low voltage,  that tach was wired to the neg. side of the coil,  which it would have seen more voltage than what the msd tach lead was putting out,  so after running the engine up the river and having the alternator charge that battery,  that made the output higher on the tach lead of the msd,

does anyone have experience with sign waves and square waves and relationship to the base line voltage.  :smile30:

Tons!  Are you interested in Vp-p or RMS?  True sine or pulse width modulation?

non of the above.....  my college was in electronic engineering 25 years ago,  and that is why i believe it was a voltage issue with the tach and msd... could be wrong

I believe that's a possibility.  :smile30:  It could just be that the gauge could use a good overhaul.  Hopefully, this problem is behind you.

lol....  i was telling leanne that if anyone was going to post back in knowing that would be you... and yes the tach might have an issue but i did take it apart,  but without the equipment ya never will know....

Remember the rule when sharing a bed. Hole to hole, no pole to pole, nor pole to hole! :smile30:
