I NEED HELP WITH MOTOR PLATE ISSUE!!

I have an issue with the ford front and rear motor plate mounts that i got with the motor when i bought it. My tx19 has rails and the ford mounts that the plates bolt to look like they bolt straight to the stringers. If i re-fab them it looks like the motor will be way too high?? Should I take the rails out and bolt them straight to the stringers? I dont want to make the boat unsafe! :smile21: :smile21: :smile21:

lol, yeah pictures worth a thousand words....but looking at my 4 point mounts, I see what you mean... you will need plates with a rail kit.

sorry to say....  NOW your on the right track.....  :smile30:  :smile29:

like duane says depends on the condition of your stringers if strong enough to hold that ford power....  then your good,  if the stringers are week,  then your gonna have to beef them up  :smile27:

OKI just did this, pulled aChevy and replaced it with a Ford,  I have the 4 point system with the front and rear motor plates bolted to the 3/8 angle with mounting blocks.  I had to cut the front and rear plates down to get my motor to set down between the stringers.  The main object to motor alinment is to center the drive shaft with NO tolerance left or right and the most important factor "no more than 3 degrees angle from the front of the pump to the front of the driveshaft"  With a Ford you sometimes have to raise the front of the motor to get this angle correct.  Also you cannot have a perfectly a flat angle on your driveshaft, it must have some wobble to luberciate itself.  To properly position the motor fore and aft  stab the pump with the splined end of the drive shaft (HBar) as deep as it will go on the input shaft of the pump, then pull it forward 3.8 of an inch.  This will allow the crank to float, which is a necessary thing. Hopefully you can see in the photo, how much I had to cut my front mounts to get my motor to line up.  Hope this helps, George at ARS is a great help, and will talk you through any problems you might have.

Is this angle ok? The motor is as low as I could move it without doing a lot of work or spending more money.
