High fuel prices in 2011

Okay guys, since there's no place to really discuss a topic like what I'm going to ask....I've placed it in the North section. Mods, relocate where you wish please.

Since the fuel prices are usually low during the winter, I cant help but notice that this winter they are not so low....in fact they are increasing daily. So with that said, I regularly shake my head at the hypocrisy from the left (liberals). I remember that when gas prices were closing in at $3 a gallon in 2008, the left and MSM were all over Bush and blamed him for the rise in gas prices. By the time Bush left office, the prices were down to about $1.50 a gallon because he lifted some drilling restrictions. Now the gas prices on the rise here in Texas and we are paying at or above $3 a gallon and I don't hear any cries from the left. What's up with that? I know the prices are much higher on the east and west coasts but I don't understand the hypocrisy.
What say you? How will the price of fuel affect your Hot boating addiction this coming summer?

what i say may not be correct but certainly can be viewed as an angle;  did you really think BP was gonna carry the burden of their F*** up in the Gulf?  Once the dust has settled....  the consumers are gonna carry that burden.......

It won't effect my boating, but we may have to raise delivery fees. It's ain't cheap to move a fridge across the city in a 7.3 turbo diesel.

That will always happen no matter what.. Taxes get raised, and airlines gets fines, car companies go under.. consumers pay it all with higher prices.

The media is largely left leaning except for Fox, which seems more and more opposite of everything else. The media has its own agenda and will only put out the news that they want you to hear. If all you hear is Bush is bad, Obama good, then the sheep will begin to believe that, or what ever the case may be.

I have always been a little disenfranchised with the media for the simple fact they want to sell advertising, not the news. Only the shocking or controversial will sell TV time. They do not have a commitment to be honest. It is still the opinion of a group of people. If that group is largely left or right, then that is what you are going to get.

In my opinion, gas will level off around 2.95-3.25 a gallon. It will spike to see what the market will bear. Remember, we are in a free market economy. Things are priced according to what people will pay for them. When gas hit 4.50+ people stopped driving, boating etc or at least significantly reduced their fuel consumption rates. The same will happen again.

Personally, I don't see why people vote Democratic any way. When someone that is in congress and is a Democrat they say they are for the little guy. What does a congress man that makes well over $100k a year with multiple political perks know about working your A$$ off for 30-50K and then wondering about how to make ends meet after our government takes its all and gives to to someone that does not work. These politicians had to be rich to get the office. They are not connected with the common people in our society. At least Republicans are pro business and sort of understand. What really needs to happen is I need to be elected dictator of our country  and have absolute power for about a year. I would fire everone and start over!!

I am going to keep on boating. I might anchor a little more and boat less, but I am still going to get out there. I will also stick to lakes that are close by. But that is it.

Red horse, well said and I agree with you 100%. Profit and corporations are two words that have been turned into meaning something bad by the left. America is as great as it is because of the free market and profits as profits is what drives people to succeed....the desire to make their own life better by achieving the American dream. Yes, I feel the American dream can be achieved by EVERYONE regardless of their back grounds or situations they are currently in. Each person is limited by their own desire to succeed and I feel that welfare, assistance and other such entitlements should be a temporary thing and one should show a desire to wean themselves off of assistance.

I'll boat the same way I did last summer.  Compared to the gas prices around the world we are lucky.  I've never driven out of my way to save a few cents per gallon either.

To help combat high fuel prices I have an Exxon Mobil Credit card that gives me .15 off per gallon. I use it just for gas and it keeps prices low for me. Generally they are lower than Sams or HEB. And sometimes when an Exxon is near a Sams, like at Judson and I 35, then the prices are real similar and I still get the .15 per gallon.

So far around the DFW area, I am not very lucky however when I do run pure unleaded, without any ethanol, I see a minimum of 1.5 miles per gallon more that witht he ethanol blend. Typically I get about 380 miles per tank with ethanol mix and while using gas without the ethanol, I get about 425 miles or so before I fill up...so you can see it's a substantial difference.
So with that said, I save money by going further between fillups using non ethanol unleaded.

You gotta go a long way from DFW to find that.  It's great if your close to it but I'm betting the miles you drive there and back to get it eats up your savings.

None in the San Antonio Area...

I run Stabil in my boat at every fill up. I use the marine formula and add enough for 40 gallons even if I only burn 10. Knock on wood I have not had a fuel related problem with the Sea Ray. On the jet boat, that is a different story. It is a 69 model and has fiberglass fuel tanks. Ethanol eats that up. I need to replace them, but that is another thread. crazy.gif

Interesting that you noticed a performance difference. I ran e85 in mine for a while. I didn't notice a performance difference but the lower cost did not offset the lower MPG.
