This is a couple days late but I think THB may benefit from it.  This place is on a downhill slide.  You only have to look at the board stats over the last 12 months to see what I am talking about.  I hear long time board members say "We have been here before" but you can't go back and see what happened because the threads have been deleted.  A recent example is the Boatless Brett thread.  It has been deleted.  Now if anyone gets in touch with Brett or if Brett himself manages to login, He can't retrieve Robert's number because the thread is gone.

I personally do not post here much any more because I got tired of my posts being edited or deleted with no explanation.  There are other reasons but I will not discuss them here.  I feel like it makes no difference if I post because it very well may get changed or deleted anyway.  I know through personal conversation that a lot of members quit posting because they have issue with how the THB forums are run.  Maybe it will help if the "powers that be" know what those reason are.  Hopefully others will nut up and post what they are really thinking.

"Airing of Grievances"

1) Quit deleting threads because of a little drama.  All families fight.  Sure some threads need to be locked but at least leave it for future reference.  The Dallas Records Building has a "Whites Only" water fountain sign.  Even John Wylie Price says Leave it.  You can't erase the past but you can certainly learn from it.

2) Quit editing/deleting individual posts without notification as to why.  At the very least put *edited for {insert reason here}*

3) Mods need to be a little more consistent in how they treat members.  I realize a lot of people here do not agree with CJ.  I have seen the guy offer up transportation to members twice in the last month.  Most members would be praised for this.  He was bashed in his thread offering transportation to Houston,  and even bashed by a mod no less.  I would refer you to the thread but...  you guessed it... it was deleted.

Probably wasting my breath here but at least I made an effort.

Happy Festivus,
Matt

Deleting and modifying posts or even whole threads ruins forums IMO. If a member gets bashed like some have on here maybe take a hint? I couldn't care less, I'm just here to phuck with people and make fun. The best kind of moderation is no moderation.

Does that happen around here?    :smile26:  It's all just wintertime blues I hope ... and if we're adding any rules or anything to the forum I'd like to add "Patchman gets no avatar or picture/video posting abilities."

Matt, I couldn't agree with you more. maybe we are looking at a fire burning out. This site is almost 10 years old and maybe it is coming to an end. maybe it is time for someone or a group of someone's to reach down in their pockets and design a new TEXAS PERFORMANCE BOATS  website. This site was built on a challenge and had numerous changes made. It took the guy who built this numerous hours to design and make work out. We have had numerous fights , name calling, feuds, and many good friends made on here. We have gone from 2 events a year to many events a year. Still when it comes to a website to promote Texas/ Oklahoma boating events I think we take it. So maybe we have another year because I just renewed the site. So those of you who want to design, support , run a boating website I say go for it. I have learned over the years of having this site that you can't make everyone happy, you try and all you get is a big ole slap in the face. Those who enjoy what we have just use it and enjoy the company of other boaters. Please someone step up to the plate and start a boating website and maybe then I can just let this one just die away. Happy New Years Bill"cookieman"

Have you given any thought to selling THB?  I agree the fire may be burning low but I also think it can be stoked back to a bigger and better place.  Times change.  Websites need maintenance.  There are people out there that are more than willing to purchase sites like THB.

No Matt I wouldn't sell this site and it does have a value believe it or not. I just wished there where more boating websites. Why sell it seems to ok for the most of the users. I use to have wingman change up the site and forums and the masses didn't like it. We now are what you call the kiss plan. Keep It Simple Stupid Plan. It has worked for years now. I still put the challenge out there ....... reach deep into your pockets , find a web designer, good mods that you trust and don't pay one thing to help you, run it how you think it should be ran and make all the right decision to keep some of the users happy and piss the others off. Start one on Facebook they are free. I don't ask anyone to drink the kool-aid on this site. I have enjoyed this site and have many good friends over the years I know and don't know. I have boated on some of the best lakes Texas has to offer. I have seen friends come and go , kids being born and boaters lost to illness. I enjoy the progress that I have seen boats go from nothing to something. I really think we could use another Texas/Oklahoma boating website and I am just waiting for someone to start one. I may have sold my boat , but I will not sell my site. I enjoy the people that are on here. So until It dies off or I go first it will be the last thread to hot boats for me. Thanks

I see no need for different ownership of the site , thats ridiculous . I really don't see any need for another site either , this one is great . But since we are talking about it , I do think we should hold each other accountable for our actions . I have personally been screwed over by three members here in the past 6 months , and am not allowed to post anything about it in the forums . If we had a section to post things like thus there would probably be a lot less of this kind of crap going on . I see the problem with open  threads where it turns into a huge pissing match , but other sites have feedback areas that seem to work out . I do agree that the deletion of threads and posts should be kept to a minimum , but it happens on every forum at times . I do like the idea of editing the post to say why something was  edited instead of just deleting it .

For the record I did say it had value. This is not about starting a new site. This is about trying to take all the hard work you and other put into making THB and moving it to the next level.  THB is losing traffic.  I voiced what I have heard from others as well as my opinion why and even gave a possible solutuon. If your wish is to let it die with you then so be it.  I just thought you might want continue to grow THB and make it bigger and better rather than watch it stagnate and die.  No disrespect.  If no one speaks up how can you know there is a problem.

I agree with Shannon in the respect that people should be held accountable for their actions & behaviors on here. Keeping shady activies all hush-hush doesn't exactly help people who are unaware they may be gettin taken for a ride. Somebody is gettin screwed over, they should be able to go public with it so to speak, may make folks think twice before trying to pull some sh!tt over on somebody.

Far as the rest of this thread, I'm not on here as much as in times past, but I can't really say where I've seen a lot of excessive "moderation" regarding peoples posts/threads being edited or deleted. I do find it kind of ironic that Matt hopes people will "nut up" & say whats on their minds about the site, but then doesn't come clean with whats on his...

Not tryin to stir up no sh!t with ya Matt, just sayin...

I have some personal differences with Cliff that have affected my time here. No need to go into it any further than that.

Nut = up

Nuff said, certainly can respect that.

How about this, what are some ideas you have to take the site into a more favorable direction? Seriously... I tend to think the site works well as is, but I dunno, I have been part of the site for what I would consider a pretty long time, so my view quite possibly would not be the same as how a new or newer member may see it. I have noticed also that activity is down quite a bit more than the past, but I just put it off to people having other stuff goin on that doesn't allow them the free time they once had.

I'm not sure exactly what could be done to stoke the coals so to speak.

Matt just wanted to clear the air I deleted that thread once I returned from Houston because it served no purpose and had no value.

This is the first Ive heard of you having personal differences with me and it affecting the boards.

Time for you to "nut up" and come talk to me face to face about it or "shut up".

I came up to you and greeted you in a friendly manner at Joe Pool and you didn't have the deciency to give a decent handshake back when I offered one. Also you turned and walked away as soon as I asked how you were doing without saying a word.

If you had a problem with me, why didn't you "nut up" and talk about it then instead of sheepishly cowering behind the keyboard now??

Most folks have already figured out who you are and what your agenda is Matt. If you want to turn this into a pissing match, do it over on Performance boats.
