I've used Wayne Calverts in Denton..... IMO a top notch builder.

Not trying to take away from Mikes nephew....I'm sure he does fine work but I've had Wayne build a motor for me and he's well respected.

My father in law has owned an engine shop off 610 and 45 north since 91 and he does great work. He can buil boat motors and is very good at what he does. I would proudly put my name on any of his work.

Give him a call. Randy at Certified Automotive Machine. 7136941991. Tell him Chris Crawford told you to call and you boat with him. he should be able to get you taken care of pretty quick.

what is the motor doing ? leaking oil, blow bye?low oil pressure?  anybody can change rings and bearings, but their is a lot more too it if u want it done right and last. i would take it to a shop who knows what there doing u never know what ur are going to find when u take it apart,or have the tools to measure everthing that needs to be checked out, i  use steve at affordable engine in houston 713-553-1233 he can have it ready

If it's running good wait till after the regatta, then you pretty much have the whole winter and not be rushed.

hurry.gif The issue I had was I thought a freeze plug came out the back and was leaking but it turned out to be a water line dump. I have had this issue with Milking the oil and I fixed it with additional dumps and a block pressure regulator. The motor has and is running good but I think the Milking problem compromised some of the gaskets and want to reseal the motor since I had it out. EO had always said bring it by and he would do the EO thing to it and do rings, bearings and seals and gaskets. He is having some medical issues and can't get to it now so I have it out and want to at a minimum reseal and regasket while inspecting bearings. I can run the motor to 7000 and after that I milk oil so I think its a head gasket or leaking around a stud. I ran all day below 6500 and had clean oil so its only at high rpm and my oil pressure remains over 40 all the way from idle on so I have great oil pressure. I just got off the phone with Keith Bentley he owns a speed shop here he told me to tear it down and he would come over and inspect it with me and would assist in any rebuild I need to do. I sure like these small towns the people are so nice. Will keep you informed but hope to be testing in a week and yes I want to see the Baker as well.

Motor is apart looks like two intake leaks around water port and one stud leak in head gasket going to do bearing check tomorrow.

:smile13: Well got the lower end apart have corrosion on main journals so it's going to require a major rebuild puts me way behind the eight ball. Need new crank new bearings and full balance and rebuild so its going to be tight

A major rebuild, new crank and engine balance for a thousand?  I must be shopping in all the wrong places.
Just the oil and filter alone is near 10% of that.
