A major rebuild, new crank and engine balance for a thousand?  I must be shopping in all the wrong places.
Just the oil and filter alone is near 10% of that.

old fart!

"OLD & MEAN FART" to most, but I like you.
It still doesn't change the price.  Oil and filter are still near a $100.00, even with senior citizen discount at WalMart.

:smile13:Well got the lower end apart have corrosion on main journals so it's going to require a major rebuild puts me way behind the eight ball. Need new crank new bearings and full balance and rebuild so its going to be tight

Have machinst look over crank....... it might polish out? have not seen it so cannot say. I have seen Crankshafts brought in from yard and either polished and turned and very usuable.

Maybe you get lucky and save time and $$

100$$ for an oil change ? Pfft , mines like $20 at O'Reillys  :smile30:

I will clarify, maybe some will understand.

To start, I am talking about a rebuild on a performance marine motor.  I would recommend a Break-in oil such as Valvoline VR1 @ $6.00 qt and the use of a marine 10 Qt. pan equals $60.00.  Oil filter is $8.00, so we now have spent near $70.00 for break-in oil.  That is good for a good couple of good passes or a little longer.

Now, that needs to be dumped to be replaced with good oil.  I like Mobil 1 and its cost will be about the same as the break-in oil or $60.00.  I hope the filter gets changed, so another $8.00 is added.  Now with the break-in oil and the new synthetic oil, it comes out to at least $140.00, unless you have a 14 qt oil pan.  Its would of course be higher then.

I could be called a snob, but I wouldn't tell anyone that I was using recycled oil and didn't change it or the filter after the break-in period.
Everyone has their standards.

I know what you are talkin bout! 2 1/2 gallon Lucas break in oil + filter = $90 bux, now 2 1/2 gal Lucas Race oil + filter = $135 bux.

To each his own but I cut NO corners when it comes to oil in my machines!

I use Gibbs in my motors it is the best I have found out there. Motor update bought new block other was toast, crank toast bought new Callies, heads being ported to match exhaust and intake, valve springs toast, should have on Dyno in 10 days. Thought motos was good before can't wait to see enhancements will do.
