Paint the scoop blue and get someone to do some old school pinstriping on it in grey  :smile30:

Got the grey done this morning. The blue looks bad, but it's just scuffed and ready for clear. Gonna let is set for couple of days then put a red pinstripe all the way around between the grey and blue. Then clear it all in. Does anybody have one of those pinstripe wheel kits and want to get some practice. Or I'll do it the hard way with tape. Keep in mind, this IS the Junk Yard Dog.

I have a Buegler Striping tool that you can borrow if you want to . I have never really used it for anything , my father in law gave it to me . But in all honesty you can probably get a real striping brush and practice for a day or two and be good enough to stripe that layout the right way . Here is a link to the srtiping tool , if you want to use it I can drop it in the mail on Monday and you should have it in a few days .

I tried a striping brush on the Glastron and it didn't work too well, hence the big fat black striped that were done with taping. Let me first see if someone around here has one. That's the tool I was talking about though, the one with the wheel.

What kind of brush were you trying to use ? I have several brushes for striping , and each one has a different purpose . It also makes a difference if you are using the right paint or not . To make a fine line you should be using a #000 striping sword like this one

My local Oreilly has the Mack brushes , but you gotta make sure they get the right one . There are some that look just like the one in the link , except they have green threading instead of blue .. The ones with the green thread are actually touch up brushes and have a totally different shaped belly to the brush , it will do a straight line but it will not turn a corner . I got the wrong one to start out with and fought with it for awhile before someone told me the difference .

James. If I remember right when you tried to stripe the Glastron it was a very rough and uneven surface from the metal flake.  With this boat the surface is much much flatter.  I bet you will have much better luck with this one.  I think you will get better results with just a few minutes of practice on a flat panel with a brush than you will with the Bugler.  The Bugler is a great tool for things like a wheel or a trailer but trying to use that thing for a freehand straight line on a big flat surface looks like a PITA.

I have never put a drop of paint in the thing , but I don't think it will produce the lind of results that a brush would . I have a few guides for it that would make striping a trailer easy , but the guides will be in the way for anything like what needs to be done on the boat . It really is easy to get the hang of striping with a brush at least well enough to put a nice line around what you are doing . I practice on a piece of glass , that way I can just wipe it off with mineral spirits when I am ready . If you decide you want to give striping it with a brush a shot give me a call and I can give you some pointers to help you get started making some decent looking lines .

What I was thinking was to draw my lines with the 1/8" painters tape like they use for flames, then brush it in. I'll practice on an old washer and see how it goes.

You might ask Customtouch about that . I would worry that a thin line of fresh paint might lift when you pull the tape . When we did my pinstripes we painted them first and put the fineline 1/8 tape over where the pinstripes were going to be , then fifnished the rest of the boat before pulling the tape off of the pinstripes .

Picking up the motor parts from the machine shop tomorrow.
Woohoo go junkyard dog but how much is it going to get used with the glastron there that you love to be out in?

That's easy. When the wife wants to come to the lake I take the Glastron, when it's racing time....

I got it  jump.gif do the JYD logo one the front deck and pinstripe the scallops with barbed wire . It is easier to do barbed wire than it is a straight line , I can show you how .

I found my pinstripe brush and bought some pinstripe paint today from J&J in Garland, a dark maroon color. He sold me a little bitty can for $5. Should be enough to stripe it and airbrush ENFORCER on it. My Glastron had barbed wire on it when I bought and it was the first thing I removed. It doesn't even look like the same boat.
