Just got a call from Calverts......the motor is ready for pick up. For a teardown, inspection, polishing the crank, new oil pump, reassembly, gasket set and poly lock rocker nuts and 7 quarts of Joe Gibbs break in oil....$585.00 out the door. I'll pickup the motor today.

Hope James is ready to install this sucker tomorrow!

good deal cliff, and that is a awesome price considering they put new parts in it, they didnt charge much for labor,  jump.gif

Heads are on it now. Calverts went ahead and flipped the four pistons that had the dots the wrong way cause they are all in with the dot forward AND all the rod numbers just like I had them, on the oil pan rail side. Cliffs putting on the oil pan now (Eeck, I know, I'm letting him use air tools). Just valve covers and motor mounts then it's ready to come off the stand.

Dudes.. That was soo effin sweet. We got the motor in, pre oiled and all wired up. Cliff hit the key and without hesitation the motor fired right off. Oil pressure steady at 70+ psi. See you all at Pebble Beach tomorrow. Well, at the party tonight, THEN Pebble Beach tomorrow.

Man was it hot though. Mid afternoon was 113 inside my shop. We set up an easy-up out back and set up two portable air conditioners outside to finish her up the cool shade. Still sucked, but not as bad.

The lake test went well. The exhaust logs are a bear to keep tight enough to prevent exhaust leaks at the headers. I think I'm going to take the logs off in the fall and have them machined flat.

I put about three hours on the motor yesterday just cruising around the lake at about 3200-3400 rpms with an occasional stab on the throttle. The oil pressure was right at 80 psi when I first started the motor cold and after a while it dropped to just over 40psi once warmed up. I'm running the Joe Gibbs performance break in oil....30w. My plan is to drain the oil on Wednesday and replace with the Valvoline VR-1 50w.

Great news sounds like all the issues are finally fixed and good lessons learned for all of us.

Thanks.

The oil pressure did just like you said it would Bobby.....but it went to just about 40psi. I let the motor cool off for a couple of hours and then went to another cruise and when I started it...the pressure went up to 70psi.......then back down to about 40psi. The good news is that I had solid oil pressure readings all day. I'm assuming that when I put the 50w VR-1 in the motor later this week, the hot oil pressure will read a little higher that 40psi?

Maybe a little higher. 40psi is fine for hot oil psi. That's at low rpm right? It's probably around 50 psi cruising?

Didn't really move much at higher RPMs......maybe a pound or two.
