At least it ran long enough to get nominates for BOTM  :smile19: I think that might be a record for a Ford motor  think.gif I told you to get an LS instead of throwing good money after bad on the Ford  :smile30:

I dunno, it's got more run time than yours... lol :cheesy:

Thanks guys. I'll post the part numbers of the bearings when I can.

Brian was ultimately the one who directed Calverts what to do.

Wish I could rewind to May. Lol

Not trying to butt in but............. It was my business in selling engine parts for 30 years,  that machine shops do the work requested of them. They do not normally clean, flush and prep for final build unless requested and your charged for it.  Anytime I get a block back I is washed with solvent based cleaners, then detergent...... use stiff bristle brush in cyls. and then use pressure washer in ll oil ports....... and stiff round brushed in holes in crankshaft.....Then use compressed air to blow out all galleys and passages.

Maybe this was done??

What bearing number did Calvert sell you?  Clevite , Federl Mogul or King?  Post number and I will be more than happy to take a look see for you.

I wish you well as that is such a pretty boat.  It needs to run equal to as pretty as it is!!

I don't think it was. I assumed Brian did it, but probably not. When I have Blaine's do my motors I pay for "assembly prep". It's like an extra $90 I think, but the block is just that, ready for assembly. Machined, cleaned, painted, all the oil and freeze plugs put back in. I have to go up to my shop in a few here. I'll get the part numbers off the bearings.

CB818P is the bearing part number and they are .010 undersized.

Those ARE 460 rod bearings... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CLE-CB818P/

Here's how I put it together. The side with the gap in the bearing against the crank. All 8 are installed that way indicated by the rod numbers and the bearing tabs being on the oil pan rail side. When four were in backwards the motor wouldn't turn over.

Pretty sure I had it right..

What is throwing me off is that chamfer on the rods.  I am sure you had it right according to the info you have.  The chamfer just does not seem right.  I wonder about that one rod being marked with a "7" on the side but a "4" on bottom of the cap.  It makes me wonder if that rod came from a different motor.  The one rod that was obviously rubbing on something with the rough spot in the chamfer also bothers me.  I am anxious to hear what Calvert has to say.  I bet it is a combination of things.

EDIT: Perhaps that one rod could have rubbed the crank when it was installed backwards before you fixed it.

I also thought about that kinked oil line.  While that needs to be fixed it was not the cause.  If I understand correctly Cliff did not have that remote filter installed while at Broken Bow.  This is just a reminder Cliff to fix that kinked water line and oil line before you put the motor back in.

good info

The bearings we pulled sure do look like number one in the article. Front faces wiped, back sides clean. I checked the back of a couple this morning when I looked at the part number.

That kinked line could have caused lower pressure than it would have had otherwise making us pull the motor preventing further damage. I think the water line can be fixed by routing it correctly but he'll need a good 90 for the oil remote.

I don't see Chevy mounts fixing his oil issues! think.gif :smile16: I'd take it back to the machinist and see what they think! They will have a good idea of what happened! :smile20:

I think it was Matt's lame attempt at saying that a BBC would be better off in Cliff's boat.  BBC hmm Matt you know your right it would do better with a Big Block Chrysler
