Blue Oval rocks!

The Crusader is the perfect boat for my family. It's roomy, is Ford powered, Berkely jet and it's yellow. Those were all the requirements that I wanted in a jet and so far, it has met them.

Thanks a million for the support. I'm going to try and take a 1/2 day off from work tomorrow and scoot down to Sequin and drag this baby home. My business trip to Waco may fizzle out so my plan B is to deadhead down there and then drive back in one day.

Sounds like you have a plan Cliff.  Is there any chance of him driving at all to meet you?  Even if he drove for 30 minutes it would save you an hour.

I'm going to call him this morning and see if he'll meet me either just north of Austin or south of Auston. I need to look at yahoo maps and see where a lake is so we can take for a spin. I'd hate to drive it for the first time on Lavon this sunday without any instruction on how to handle this beast. Lol.

He didn't want to meet in Waco, though that is the 1/2 way point between north Dallas and Sequin.

However once I do put her through "sea trials" I'll either sit back quietly or come back with a huge Sh-- eatin' grin on my face. Lol.

Hey Cliff, having just bought my first jet boat this summer, if the first ride in my Glastron is any indicator, it will be grin regardless if the motor is Ford or Chevy. It's the jet that makes the difference and gives you that hold onto you shorts ride you can't get from a prop.
That's my .02
:smile26:   Hitch a ride with a vdrive one time.

"A true Ford guy is quiet because he knows how hard they run, doesn't have to mouth off about it and lets the boat do the talking. Show me one chevy motor that you can take to a 557 cid without having to grind the hell out of the block and then come talk to me", said the old man.

Chevys don't need to be that big to take care of business........ :smile17:

Fords are too complex. I prefer something I can let my kid work on and it still run. Other than that it simply is a different set of blueprints to build power. Chevys can be rebuilt using parts from another similar chevy engine. Try asking for a sb ford intake at oreillys and see what questions arise. I can't really say much because I own a ford, dodge, kia, olds, and a few chevys. They each have their own special use in my mind.

Okay, it's all set. I'm leaving for Waco tomorrow afternoon, driving down to Sequin to get the boat and bring her back to Waco. We're going to take her out on Lake Placid, which is part of the Guadalupe river off of I-10 before I head north. Looks like I'll have a jet boat attached to my truck when I show up to the meeting Thursday morning. I'll drag her home after the meeting on Thursday.

Sunday will be a full day of Jet Boating for the Shaw family. Yahoo!!!!

Can't wait to see you on the lake Sunday Cliff. Now, probably about 18 boats are going to need a tug, and the Whaler will be in the driveway.. haha..

Just kidding.

let us know when and where you are going to launch Sunday.  Maybe some of us can be there at the same time just in case.  If your like me it will take you a couple of trips to build your trust in the boat.

Thats cool man, congrats to ya on the purchase.  :smile17:

Devilman, thanks a million for the tip off about this boat. By this time tomorrow, if all goes well, she should be latched up to the back of my truck heading northward.

Last Mohican. Thanks for the offer. I plan on being at Ticky Creek ramp about 12-1 pm on Sunday, not sure at this moment. Though I've grown up around and have owned boats all my life, I have never owned or driven a jet boat with a hot foot before so I'm thinking it will take a little getting used too. As for the reliability, I'm like you........it'll take a while before I'm confident in her reliability. Nothing against the prior owner, it's just that if you don't KNOW a boat, you just don't KNOW her....hope that makes sense.

Blazeracer brings up a great point in another post considering grease/oil in the bowl. The jet is a Berkley and I see two zerks installed on it. How can you tell the amount of grease/oil is in it? Thanks.

I'm sure I'll have 1,000's of "New Guy" questions....so stand by. Lol.  :smile27:

See ya!

I'm no expert, but from what I've read grease is recommended for longevity, it provides no performance gain. To switch you put a zerk in one side and pump away with about 100 pumps till grease comes out the other side, then put a PLUG in the other side so you know which way to pump the grease next time. Seeing how mine has two plugs in, it's got oil, and it's clean oil. I'll top mine off with 90 weight tomorrow. Seeing as how yours has two zerks, it's most likely been filled with grease.

Since mine's really low I might try what Brent said and put something synthetic in it.

this is outstanding Texas Whaler,  It's great that you have gone forward with this venture,  the jet is not that complicated,  so get back to the basics,  and progress as you learn like I'm doing,  Berk,  recommends oil in the bowl, clearances to close for grease and will not lube right,  and you will find and accessive amount a wear on the bushings and shaft, 1/4 inch plugs fill with lucus and have fun,  then rebuild,  then 30w blend with lucus...  go squirt some water  :smile16:

Congrats Cliff on your new  boat. I guess the old saying stands true..... The happiest day of a boat owner is the day he buys it and the day he sells it.    I am not sure about the day he sells it .... that could be some what sad.

He's probably right about the oil. The thing I read was from a tech on Jet Boat Performance dot com, but for we know he's just another yahoo out there blowing sunshine up our.. BEEP.. Berkeley recommends oil, mine's got oil in it now.

Here you go, right from Berkeley.. http://www.berkeleyjet.com/t-bj_tech.aspx
