its easy to do the fun stuff first.....then you will never have a boat to enjoy, do the pain in the ass work first before you get discouraged, then do the fun stuff. i can sit around and build motors and buy hull accessories all day, but it doesnt make much sense if i dont have a nice solid hull to put it all on.

well, I guess that could be a possibility...

and as a side note, I'm sure the saving cans for $$$ is just kiddin around.. but in case its not, I hope aluminum cans are paying a helluva lot more than they are around here.

Believe it or not the hull is clean not filled with beer cans.  Now the neighbors trash is still floating around it she is just disgusting I am always picking up her trash from my yard when I am mowing the lawn.  We will start to see a lot more work done on the CJ in the coming weeks and months.  I know it seems like I am not a doer Kona but if you only saw what all I do that keeps me from actually getting to do work on my own stuff.  I have a hard time saying no to others that need help and generally slave myself out to the point that I am exhausted.  My personal stuff is always back burner.  But wife is tired of everything in pieces.  I know how to manipulate her and being that there are motors and parts under the carport and on the patios where she can see it gets her to get on me to get that thing done.  Finances are starting to come back around so things are looking up.  Besides sometimes good things come to those who wait.  I was able to buy an underdeck fuel tank from SimplyOrange which if I had the CJ on the water already wouldn't have been able to use.  Typically this is how my projects go either that or I rush them and end up redoing them 10 times because I either keep changing it, find better parts, or did something wrong in my rush.  IF I had my choice as frustrating as this is sometimes I would rather it take 10 times as long but be done right and done once.

All the ribbing from ya'll is motivation as well as my own drive to get er dun.  I also want to be able to enjoy it and not be working on it everytime I take her out like I always seemed to have to do with my barracuda and then my first boat was always messing with the motor.

Wow.....there's a TON of great advice coming at ya CJ and you still refuse to listen. Like everyone has said, including the "professionals", getting the boat done first should be the priority as the motor is the EASIEST task to complete.

I know it seems like I'm coming down on you CJ....and in a sense I am. However everyone, myself included, want to see you on the water...in a boat, any boat....soon.

I hear ya and everyone I did get some templates done up last night planning on cutting some wood on thursday.  So I am working on it.  just multi-tasking  and yes my wife says the same thing get the boat done so it's just waiting on the motor.  to me the motor is the heart of the beast and without it there is no life.  Like I said part of who I am.  Maybe having the empty shell will get more done on the motor but at the same time I am afraid once its back in one piece it will be out of the wifes mind and the motor will be on her back burner.

Dude, really. The motor is the easy part. The hull is a ROYAL BIAATCH!!! Especially if it's in two pieces. Fiberglass will cost you $$$$$ in material alone. Doing it right will strain your patience. The single largest labor intensive part of a boat build is by far wood and fiberglass. My Enforcer motor is on the stand with an empty block. It will take one afternoon to put it together. I've been working on the hull for four months and still have more to do.

Best place to get your glass material...  http://www.aeromarineproducts.com/

Maybe some others know of some other places. I love their resin. Gives you over 30 minutes of work time. Be sure to use a roller or it will delaminate in no time at all.

You really need to get the bottom on a jig so it's squared up, then get the two halves back together.

James I already have all my glass and resin.  The jig is done its squared was just waiting for me to have some time to get to work on it and the money for the plywood.  I know I am haphazard but it will all come together.  Time is coming money as well I just would like to see it all come together at once and not be waiting on anything anymore cause as soon as the hull is ready for the water I want to be out on the water with it.  The motor is easy to a degree.  I am doing something that's not common like what you did with the Glastron.  I know you did a lot of trial and error.  I have almost everything for mine except the intake.  It is hard to get the wife to understand how I have to spend as much on just one part of the motor as I did on the entire boat.  But since I have been selling parts off I think she is starting to realize that not everything is as inexpensive as I typically get it for.  I have her putting spare parts on ebay and hopefully those sell off and it will put some more funds in the motor and wood budgets.  If not then the wood budget is already getting filled.  Just going to be buying it little by little.  Weather seems to have cleared up as well so I can get the wood cut and glassed before we get any more major rain.  I don't have much more dry storage available to keep that much plywood around right now.

One more thing, if you want some respect and encouragement, post up some progress pics of the HULL over the next few weeks.  You'll get a ton of encouragement from the peeps here.  Then, show your wife this thread and she'll be behind you too.

I know the respect has to be earned.  sometimes discouragement is just the encouragement needed.  doubt the other half will get on here anytime soon but seeing progress out the back window should be enough for her.  After all I did finish her porch extension finally.  Now I just need to finish her porch swing.

Oh and I know without pics there is no proof.

i just went back and looked at the first page of this thread for the first time. and idk if this was covered but foam does not make a boat float any better. and its actually bad for wood and glass when ot is wet.

It'll never happen.  :smile30:

This I'm beginning think is the most obvious conclusion.  CJ is a talker.  Not a doer.  Until he proves otherwise, I'm classifying him as a blow hard.....

Prove me wrong.
