Yes Cliff I know you do unfortunately your hands were tied having to rely on others to finish some of the work. Fortunate for me I am doing all my work on my motor and the boat so as long as I keep focused and get work done every minute I can then it will be done. Two good weekends and the boat should be ready for a motor. Another good weekend and the motor will be in the boat.Crusader said:I know how long it takes to get from where you are to the water. 300 HP 310 ft lbs of Torque not real power and that's because its bone stock. Wait until I do a rebuild on one 500hp 525 ftlbs of torque with a 408 stroked out small block on pump gas.blazeracer said:That thing's going to explode the first time you put power to it. Fortunately with a Dodge small block it will never see real power, so I say run it.
Well as much as I can appreciate that and in the long run that may be the way it ends up going. None of us know how this thing will perform and no one can say anything about it until it does so until we can all see it in action no one can judge it as a joke, crap or otherwise. I am going to put it back together with the best of my ability. Run it see how it performs, see what I can get out of it and how well it handles it. There are several features of this pump I like over any other and that is also swaying my decision. For now its staying until it proves otherwise unusable or not practical. Plan is to get a second boat once this one is down for play anyways and this one will just be the daycruiser for the family so in the end it may not matter that much but I do want to play with it since obviously no one here has ever done that.spd500 said:You really need to get a Berkeley . Seriously , no BS . It is way too much work to rebuild a boat to be putting that junk back on . I know you think its cool that its original to the boat , bit that pump is a joke . Get a good pump and you will be a lot happier in the long run .
Been Doing this 30 years. Thats a new one to me.ChryslerJet said:The wear ring there is quite a bit of scoring on it. Wondering since its aluminum if I can fill in with welds and smooth out.
I'd appreciate the opinions. I can also just put it back together its not that bad and run it for now and fix later if need to.

Last Mohican said:Chris, First let me say again, I think it is great that you are keeping the Chrysler pump. I am 100% positive your goals are too high though. That pump is not a mixed flow pump. The construction is very similar to a Jacuzzi YJ. The YJ is a great stump puller of a pump but it does not like HP or RPM much over what it was designed for. The Chrysler pump is the same way. It will work great with stock power to get the boat up on plane and pull to ~45 MPH. Adding more power will just cause it to cavitate and ultimately fail. Just put it back together with stock power and enjoy it. Anything else and it is going to become unreliable and turn into a headache for you and your family. You want them to enjoy the lake not be put out because every time you go out it breaks something.
James I am seriously looking at that carlson as a go fast fun boat. Its not a Jet but has some great documented history to it. Everyone loves a good story. I am plannign on welding it up good and should be fine. It's wierd how that cracked as there really isn't any major stress on it there. Might have been from a hit or something. I could see if the boat was dropped so that the weight of the boat was on the exit of the pump it would push up enough to possibly cause that crack.blazeracer said:I was just yanking your chain about the power thing. It's probably only a matter of time before it gives out all together. Either find someone that knows what they are doing and fix it right with a stock motor or put it back together and be nice to it while looking for replacement Chrysler parts. Keep it all Chrysler if possible, but don't worry about making it fast. Get winger or tunnel if you want to go fast.
