Broke Boat

Before I tried to bolt the pump in the boat I tried to make sure my bowl would go on it. It wouldn't someone had hit the shaft with a hammer or something and mushroomed it so I had to dress that end of the shaft. Then I prep  the bottom of the pump and intake and put silicone on the intake. When I tried to put the pump in the driveshaft went 1/4 of the way on and stuck! I almost couldn't get it back off. Then I had to clean the silicone off and now I have to dress the splines in the front of the pumpshaft!

Not that I've had mine apart a whole lot, but I've had good luck using anti-sieze on the intake gasket. Helps create a seal between the intake/pump but doesn't get messed up moving it around as silicone would. Keeps the gasket from gettin tore up too, in case you had to re-use it. That was passed along to me by Danna from Mike's Pump & Speed a few years ago... been workin like a champ. Just throwin it out there...

No problem man, they sure helped me a lot when they were open & that trick has worked well for me. I may have a bowl gasket, but I wouldn't be able to get it in the mail until tomorrow at the soonest, probably be mid-week before you saw it. I'll look when I get home & if you can't find one locally or get one faster I can send it to ya.

Ok thanks. I'm hoping people in the north will see this and let me know if they have one. I was thinking of just siliconing it but it would be Hell to get off!

Could probably make one out of a beer box, its about the same thickness & consistency from what I can tell. I know Coonass made a droop gasket out of one at Hydrofest one year.

Be a good excuse to buy a 30 pack at any rate.

I went to Tractor Supply and bought bulk gasket material and cut my own.  It was a piece of cake with a razor knife and ball peen hammer.  TSC was the only place that had a piece large enough in stock.  It was cheap too  like $4.  I think I have enough left over if you want to come get it and cut your own.  I'd post a link but I can't find it on their website.
