Boat trailer work

The inside diameter is the same but the outside diameter is obviously different. These might be the original 1978 bearings!! The races were seriously worn with some pretty good sized grooves. There were also chunks of metal in there too. These things had some miles on them. I'm curious where this boat has travelled.

Yeah, because the races don't just pop in and out. That's why I have a driver set for them. You gotta hammer them in perfectly square or they bind and won't budge, or worse yet ruin.

You probably have standard seals and won't need this but here is the info anyway.

Old Seal: Western Axel 233-188-SP2-1
New Seal: Timken 473317

I got them at A&W Bearing in Dallas 214-630-4049.  etrailer.com showed them as well but were out of stock when I did mine.

I think I'm in the same boat as you with the seals. Though I was able to buy the same bearings that I had before, I wasn't able to get the same races or seals...I'll call AW today.

I just called A & W in Garland (G-town, hope I don't get shot!!) and they said they'd be able to help me out. I'll bring in the hub and old bearings to them today at lunch and find out what they can do.

Hey old timer, is that some kind of jab about where I live? At least I can park a boat at my house!

I had to replace a bearing on my refrigerator trailer a few weeks ago. I got a replacement trailer bearing kit ($18) from Northern Tool that had everything in it and went right in.. with help from a bearing driver. IT should work if you have standard trailer bearings.

O'Reilly's will have a driver set you can borrow to pound them in.

James, how far is this place from your shop?

A&W bearing
3548 Miller Park Drive
Garland, Texas 75042

It is about 6.8 miles according to google maps.  They are right at Forest and Jupiter.  Forrest turns into Hwy 66.

EDIT:  James beat me to it.

Hey Cliff, Be sure to post up the seal and bearing part numbers.  I am curious if they are the same as mine.  I could not find them at any local auto parts.  Even the old timer at the NAPA in Wylie could not come up with them and he had a lot of part numbers stored in his head.

Just a few minutes down the road. I want to say 66 and Jupiter area.

If you got time, let's meet for lunch after I get these bearings

believe it or not Academy has trailer bearings too.

Ya, and hubs kits too. They didn't have what I needed. Academy has an awesome marine section and trailer section too.
