Boat trailer work

I have a 110 volt wire feed welder, will that work? It seems heating the race would make it expand and be tighter on the hole.

Heating it up will shrink it, cooling it off expands it. Thats why we get the water out of the engine blocks in the winter. The water freezes and expands...breaking shit.

I'm bringing the Crusdaer home from the storage shed to change out the wheel bearings and the carb. I hope I don't have metric wheel bearing seals like Matt was mentioning earlier. It's a 1978 trailer so I'm pretty sure it's all standard stuff unless someone changed them out before.

Mine was a 74 and built in CA.

This talk of welding machines & such... sure seems like a lot of overkill for a job that doesn't require anything more than a hammer, a punch, & some rags, lol.

carry on....

X2  I wouldn't even do the races unless they look damaged.

Brakes !!!! Check the Brakes !!!!! if ya don't have any get a set put on !!!  just one axle with brakes can save alot of wear on the tow vehicles brakes and brake failure on a road trip is REALLY BAD !!!

The trailer has Hydraulic brakes on it but they were disconnected. At times, I will back the boat into my driveway and there's an upgrade in my driveway. As I know nothing about brakes on a trailer, I'm afraid that the brakes will lock up when back up an upgrade into the driveway.

This will keep them from locking up in reverse.  I've never used one but my guess is it's a line lock that you wire it into the reverse lights.

Man, I had a heck of a time trying to find the proper bearing seal and bearings. The races still wont fit even though I froze them and heated up the hub, o joy. I guess I have some seriously old school hubs and might just be better off replacing the whole hub assy.

Just curious, Have you ever replaced bearing races before?

Lol. Yes, few times. Never had to freeze or heat something up before. The races, when compared side by side are different sizes. Barely noticeable though.
