AC shops?

So I finally got around to tackling this, somewhat anyways. I got tired of asking for gauges and the Mac tool guy said he'd cut me a deal. So the gauges are 134/12.

Hooked it up today and from my research the refrigerant surprisingly is still in there at 30-40 psi on the low. I've read that's about where it's supposed to be. I watched the clutch kick in, kick back out, kick in and then jam and almost threw the belt. I'm pretty sure it's a safe bet the clutch and or compressor is due. Hey it's been on there for 20' something years. So I'll do the compressor/accumulator/orifice tube. Work is going to let me use there vacuum pump so I can evacuate it.

I also did get the EPA license, so I can now buy R12. I'll stick with it and freeze to death lol

You're lucky to use R-12

I just recharged my system with a can of R-134a and my AC still isn't working well. Might have to add another can

Good luck

Mite put some guages on it Cliff! R-134-a is more effecient! Takes less to do the same! Been converting for years and seen pretty much everything! Also keep in mind that too much freon in a system isn't cold either. So you must watch how much you add! :smile30:

Not doubting you but everyone I talked to said stick with the R12 it gets colder and faster. Plus I'm not going to dump a bunch of money in this truck when I'm getting ready to buy another car. This ones just going to be the tow rig.

Some systems don't function as well with R-134. That's mainly do to the condenser. I've got an 87 f250 that I converted that will give you a headache from the cold. R-12 is not better, nor faster. I will say that if you have a slow leak in an r-12 system, r-134 will leak like a siv do to it being a smaller molecule! When converting the systems, you use 3/4 the charge you would use of r-12. So I would say it does more with less. But keep it r-12 if you want. I used it allot and liked it back in the day! Then the more I converted them, I began liking R-134. Use what you want, a/c is a must! Good luck, and if you have a question, I gladly help where possible! :smile30:
