Shoot at least TWO coats before the first wet sand, if not three. You don't want to cut through the clear anywhere on that thing,

Talked to JJ during lunch.  Going to pull the gearbox tomorrow night while prepping for the clearcoat.  Will be sending him the gearbox to go through it and already got a quote to replace everything if it needs it.

Cliff this one doesn't need me to tear out the floors or split it and I am ready to get on the water.  CJ still needs a lot of work get this one out there and then will get the CJ done.  If everything goes right might get them both out for RTC.

JJ also gave me some ideas on the Steering on what to do and a quick and easy way to check if its the cables/box or rudder.

Yeah I know keeping my head in the game on the Carlson going to take advantage of the momentum I have right now and get as much done as I can.  I am just hoping I won't have to do much to freshen up that motor.  It was built right and ran strong last time I ran it.

One step at a time, pull the gear box then get that clear on it this weekend.

Prep for clear coat = wash with soap and water, dry completely and start shooting......

Not sure I am going to wash it more than the rain has since it will wipe off more of the metal flake.  Just wiping it takes it off.  May hose it down and let it sun dry then shoot it.  Normally I would sand and prep but just won't work here.  I am crossing my fingers that everything will stick fine.

You need to wash it with soap and water to get any oils or residue from the atmosphere off of it so the clear will stick....

Cliff yeah I know but at the same time it will wash off more of the metalflake.  Such a hard decision.  I think need to take it to the car wash and do a soft spray soap and light rinse no pressured water.  Unless someone has a better idea

Wish I had some advice for ya, seems like a "damned if you do/damned if you don't" type a situation. One thing to think about is if you do the rinse thing at a carwash, wouldn't it need to be dry for the tow home. I'd think if its wet, crap & road grit gonna get stuck to it & you'll be back where you started.
