JAMES, THE SAND IS JUST A DIFFERENT KIND OF BLOCK FILLER,THAT SAND YOU HAVE IN THE BLOCK GUESS WHERE IT CAME THROUGH.THE PUMP

That sand helps keep the ware ring and impeller sparkling!
Seriously though do make sure you get brass freeze plugs and torque plates installed while boring.

You'll have a big smile on your face this spring I'm sure!!!

It doesn't worry me too much. It's what, 30+ years old? Gotta expect some. There was like sedimentary layers in there, when you pull an earth sample core... LOL

Yes, BRASS freeze plugs are going in for $10 extra. They guy put on the work sheet "For a Jet Boat".

Don't know if you have your cam yet....but it is a good idea to have them fit it to the new cam bearings ....Ford 460 cam bearings can be a little on the tight side when installed new.....On my current motor the machine shop had me bring them the new cam to test fit the bearings.

He didn't say anything about the cam, just wanted one piston.

james you might want to check into that........... he should be fitting each piston in each hole, when he's done he'll have the pistons marked to which cylinder they were matched with.................

that sux!!!!!!!!!  when i have it done i always have them bore/hone each cylinder to match each piston, the last one i did in oklahoma did it and only charged me $220 for polishing crank, bore/hone, checked for cracks and soaked it in a vat to clean it, it would make me nervous not to have them all matched up

I asked if he wanted all the pistons. He took a look at them and said naa, he needed only one. I guess he know's they're the good kind and all the same size. I have no Hyperjunk going in there. These slugs are the real deal. If I were building an all out race motor and spending 10 grand I'd go for that, but it's a mildly modded boat motor. It should be OK. Blaines has been in business 24 years. You don't stay around that long building junk.

I've built a few street motors and never had all 8 pistons matched up to the cylinders. Only once I got a bad machine job. It was a 400 SBC and it was too tight on all 8, not just one or two.

We'll see though. I'll blueprint it all as it goes back together. I have nice engine blueprint sheet in excel on my laptop. Any problems and it goes back. I'm not in a hurry on this one.

I would suspect those pistons are within .00001 of each other, it's not like you can hone a cylinder 1 less stroke to get it closer.... crazy.gif
Blaze, just wanted to let you know I respect the build , and didn't mean anything by the piston thing...just making sure you knew about the valve reliefs....didn't want you to put it together to find out it won't turn over. :smile19:

carry on! :smile27:

Hey, No problem Duane. I'll be turning the motor over by hand with a ball of clay on the piston the first time.

It probably won't be going back in till late Feb. Still gotta build it. Before that I have to paint the hull. It's totally stripped bare now except for the pump. If all goes well it will be upside down on a pile of tires this afternoon.
