This bead blaster is making it's money back.. I was just going to chuck my block drain valves and buy new ones because they were nasty and thought they would probably be ruined and that the metal may be too soft to blast.. WRONG!!

Since I have two, here's a side by side. One blasted and brushed, the other as it came out of the block.

Then again the drains might very well be a wasted effort also as they can't be reached with the motor in unless the back seat is taken out. Could be a once a year winterizing thing since only 6 screws hold the seat unit in.

Well, I started this thread in two locations on the same same day. Here in Engine Talk and in the North section.

Very few look at this section as proven here... the other thread..

http://www.texashotboats.com/forums/index.php?topic=11383.0

Two whole replies, both started on the same day.

Fact is everyone goes to the regional section because that's where their freinds are. All forums are like that and this one is no exception. I've gotten invaluable advice from lots of people during my build who would never even look in this area.

If you really think about it, every single thread in a regional section would fit best somewhere else. Just saying...

JUST FYI James I have open close valve on a hose also going to my oil pan to drain oil but mine doesnt have a cap on the end.  And lesson learned last year was on the way home from lavon and got home and some oil was running out the back of the boat  WHAT A MESS FROM HE$$  :smile20: some how the valve turned open on the ruff back roads we have coming home good thing it did it on the trailer and not going across the water.  Just saying I would make sure you put a cap on the end which im sure you will.      :smile30:

Going thru my parts room last night I looked in the tray that contains the old timing set. Gears, chainr, non ARP bolts and all are in there, inlcuding this thrust washer which I imagine goes next to the block to keep the grank gear and block from chewing each other up... But I could be wrong. It's keyed so I know for sure it goes on the crank.

GRRRRRR

Wasted a perfectly good timing cover gasket.

What you are showing here is the oil deflector which goes on the outside of the crank gear supposedly to deflect oil away from the front timing cover seal. There has been a long running discussion on the 460 Ford forum if it is actually needed or not. Alot of the aftermarket double roller timing chains will rub on the backside of the deflector and actually spread metal through the engine if you don't check the clearence on this. (Don't ask how I know.) Personally my 521 does not have it installed(now) and I have had no problems with any oil leakage from the front seal.

Just my 2 cents
Take it for what it cost ya

Thanks Esa, it will cost me a $6 gasket if I put it in. I did put in a Ford Racing double roller timing chain too. If it starts leaking it waill still cost me the same $6 gasket, and about 2 hours to put it in..

I guess we'll go status quo in this one.

Well, I had actually go do work this morning, but while I was gone the UPS guy stopped by. The SCJ intake gaskets arrived from Jegs. Huge difference in the gasket port size, and the spacing is slightly different also.

If I wanted to thrash it I could have it in tonight and run a test tomorrow at Lavon. Still have hull work to do though. Top side paint, stereo and lighting then drop all the pieces in. I think I'm going to finish out the engine compartment too which will pretty much consist of power washing at the car wash, then rattle can the wood the same color as the block, and install some strategically placed LED's. Should be an easy process since it's all empty back there now. Maybe add a mirror polished peice of stainless on the underside of the hood if all comes together real good.

no need to get in a big hurry ,you have plenty of time for spring and summer ..
Take your time and do it the way you want to the first time .

I can say this , but I can't do it myself . I want to get it all together and go to the lake ..

You going to have a nice boat when you are finished .

I hope so. I think everything will be killer except the paint. I'm no painter so it will be so-so at best, but still way better than the flaking grey that was on it in November. Should be better than a 20/20 paint job, but definitely not show quality.

80? Wow..... 70 is the goal, without spray. At the point the nitrous isn't going back in. There is an umbrella hole in the way where the bottle used to go. And the the umbrella costs less to refill than the nitrous bottle. LOL
