A460 heads can be bought complete with good valves and springs good to over .800 lift for about $2700 from lots of places new and will flow around 400-410cfm, you can have them fully CNC'd for about
$1400-1500 and the'll go 460+cfm. I've been building and running A460 and C460 stlye headed BBF strokers for close to ten years now and i honestly think the A460 heads rock, but to each there own.

I havent done much reading on the A460s but it sounds like they can make the HP!

I thank you for your input on this subject, I have been pursuing the purchase of the Kaase heads under the impression they were the best.  Knowing that what works on car motors, may are may not work for a marine motor.  I miss read the website and had thought the P-51's were bolted on a factory Ford truck motor, but as I reread the article they did replace the pistons with flat top pistons.  This has me rethinking the P-51's.  A new set of pistons was not in my budget, add the price of the piston, to the purchase price of the heads and the a460's may be the better buy.  I have only found one set of a460's for sale, and they were on Racing Junk for $4,000.00.  I will start my search today for a460's, but I may go back to the dark side and go with a stroked Chevy.  The Ford project was my first experience with this brand and I'm on very unfamiliar turf.  Thank you again for your insight.

Ain't this a great site, thank you THB! clap.gif

the best heads you can use with stock style pistons would be the old A429's, TF Streets or the very hard to find Blue Thunder heads, all these heads can easily go in the 370+cfm range and support a honest 700+hp pumpgas build or 800+ race gas deal with a single carb.

Being on a budget and with two ongoing project boats, I feel the P-51's and the a460 heads are out of reach.

I do have one other question, the a460's I found were recommended for 500+ cubic inch and high RPM power.  I don't think you will turn a jet boat 7700 rpm.  How is this better for a jet boat?

Plus the cost: $2600.00 for the heads, $20.00 for gaskets, and $618.00 for the intake. And the a460's have Chevy exhaust flanges.

I had a 514 (15:1 cr) with a .800 lift cam and a single 1250 carb, A460 heads (flowed 437cfm @.800) made 900hp by 7000rpm and i turned a detailed "B" impeller 6600-6700rpm. I bought the heads used for $1500 and had new springs installed, fresh valve job and the intake ports cleaned up for about another $1000. Bought a used intake for $300 (lightly ported) and made great power for the same price as a new set of conventional style heads and victor intake. The A460 stuff makes great power from 6-7000+rpm on a 500"+ stroker. If you have the money ready to go good deals come along pretty regularly on the A460 stuff, maybe once a month or so i see a good deal.

I'm just finding out about a460 heads, so I have never been looking for any used deals.  If you run across something I would be interested.  The prices I quoted were new prices, except for the heads on RacingJunk.
